Kicking Rules

Post by KLK »

does anybody use the kicking rules in a league?

and if yes, what? good idea? bad idea?

we use the kicker player, but no the rules. perhaps we use the rules, but first, we need your opinion.

Thanks

I wanted to include kicking in my league, but we could never find a way to get the rules just right, so the majority ruled and kicking doesn't appear. :(

I don't like the kicking skills very much. Having a kicker player position in a league without the kick rules is just going to make playing offence a little bit tougher and give defences a better chance at crashing the backfield.

Apart of having some fluffy considerations (why there can be a Beastman/Halfling/Goblin Kicker and not any other position, etc.), we came to the conclusion that for the fast teams it provides another means of easiliy scoring TDs while grinding temas wouldn't take the chances (apart of the last round or so).

IMHO the kicking rules need a bit of tweaking... a few ideas, not all have to be used, just some ideas

1) only certain teams get the kicker position and they need to have a current position with passing skills (as not to change the balence too drastically)
2) not allowing a kicker position to be on high movement (ma8+) and/or agility teams (ag4) (they already have the passing game)
3) restricting access of kicking skills to kickers (which may mean that kick stays a general skill)
4) you can not mix throwers and kickers on a roster (at the same time, or maybe make it a permanent roster change

dark elf, dwarf and orc rosters would be good candidates, dark elves would be doing the running game as the fluff implies, dwarves would have a diversity in their play and all 3 teams don't have catcher positions

I dont like the FG rules but the kicking rules arent too bad and in my experience I rarely see a kick action taken as ,after all, you are voluntarily surrendering the ball and a turn over.
I think having all the kicking skills as general skills works ok then rather then have a "kicker" position anybody can learn them

I tend to think if kicker positions exist, humans the great generalists, should have them.

maybe so... i'd love to see a more thought out way of approaching kicking rules and just experimental rules in general

The MBBL2 uses the Kicking rules but without Field Goals and special kicking players.

We made all players able to become kickers by making the Kicking Skill a category that every player has access to (even Stunties).

http://www.midgardbb.com/Skills.html

We even have a team in the league that is specifically geared to kicking by having all the kicking skills on the players.

We used the kicking rules - and field goals, for 5 seasons, and a lot of fun it was too...

Bored of them now though - and after the 6 month league break I'm hoping to get away witha pure LRB league - at least for a while!

I got bored because no-one ever made a kicking team, and all the kicking rules were used for was to resolve draws with 1 shot kick attempts :-?

:D
