Discuss Fantasy football-style board games - GW's Blood Bowl, Impact!'s Elfball, Privateer Press' Grind, Heresy's Deathball, etc. THIS IS NOT AN NFL FANTASY FOOTBALL SITE!
Has anyone ever given thought to expanding rosters to more than 16 players, keep the positional players the same but fill out the linemen/big guy options
It would be interesting to truly have a defensive set-up and an Offensive set-up
In our houze rules, each team has a level of organisation called structure. For the thrid structure (a hard to reach structure tr250!), you can have more than 16 players (the limit is 20) but only 16 players in the stade (ready to play for the match)
Reason:''
Ogres are the only true Blood Bowl players !
Ogrewomen are the only true BB Cheerleaders !
this type of idea would only serve to widen the gulf between starting and veteran teams. veteran teams would withstand short and long-term injuries better, and would therefore be that much more effective in games than starting teams.
the counterargument for increasing funds to let all teams start with more players is also flawed because that would just lead to teams starting with more position players and a minimum number of roster players.... also ruining the game...
if i were going to play with the rosters, i'd go the other way, cut them down to 14, maybe 15 players... that way you'd actually close the gap between new and old teams because attrition would have more of a role at the high levels of the game... thus increasing a league's overall balance...
i have to say i disagree with mr. swift. we play 20 players max. in our league and it works great. than again, we do not play "pick up" games in our league. 25-30 coaches playing nfl or nhl style. i guess if all you really had as a so called league was going to the local gaming store and hoping somebody turns up to play "this week", well ok than. if as many people played bloodbowl as play, say, 40k, and there was'nt all these half-assed rules like freebooters(what sport is run like that? ok mr. gretzky, we only need you for one game...) and there were loads of people commited to play bloodbowl, this would'nt be an issue. i'm lucky to be playing with the core of people who started playing bloodbowl back in the paper days. most people don't have that, i guess. sad. but if GREED WORKSHOP supported the game ALL THE TIME, more people would be playing. maybe they should just sell the rights to somebody or a company that wants to really get behind the game.
Bound sounds like you have a great league and I thank you for patting yourself on the back so often. But digging up old threads and telling everyone that their league is inferior, or their ideas about leagues even isn't going to get you very far around here.
