I was sitting here thinking about sport and how in most sports some individuals have benefited from having a strong internal youth system.
How about a way of implementing this in BB.
My initial thought is you start of with a player with the basic stats of a lineman of the race. then depending on how much money you spend on him you can increase his stats!
I figured an average of 20k per stat/skill you add, and to fit in with the rest of the BB rules, you can only add 3 increases so they do not become too overpowering, maybe only 1 as a max increase in any skill?
I think that having a youth system might be a good idea.... however, I suspect that under the current rules it will be hard to maintain since you need all that cash for your first team squad.
If one were to be implemented (NB this is all off the top of my head so hasn't been thought through properly!), I would expect the stats to be:-
4117
The cost per player would be low say 10k
You would then need to make dice rolls to see how well the players develop. I suggest after every game up to 3 youth players make a roll. EG roll 2 d6 and on an 11 or 12 then this player looks like he might make it. Each player has 3 rolls in total. If 2 or more rolls are 11 or 12 then this player will make it - you then roll on another table with say a 70% chance of a lino, 10% thrower etc. On making it a player could then join the team.
Of course you could make this a lot longer / detailed and have a lot more rolls for stat increases.
Whether you could field youth players who haven't made it..... is another question!
It was just something i thought of off the top of my head. Yeah I suppose it could be easily abused and not work properly. I'm willing to listen to ideas on how to improve it though!!!
Not saying it's not a good idea my friend, but I'm not creative enough to over come the stubbling blocks. Some of the boys on this site will no doubt be helpful though. If the suggestions are good I for one will be adding it to the house rules. Laters DD.

I once created a Star Player Generator. It's rather basic, but I think it might fit the bill. With some conversion, it could crank out "candidates" who have graduated from this training program. I'll post the details later.
A few things that stand out from first impressions;
the racial thing - as a lizard man coach, would there be a difference between a saurus 'youth' and a skink 'youth'...
also, youth seems... inappropriate for an undead team! Perhaps a reserve squad would serve better, where all the basic profiles were reduced by -1, and no non physical skills, and the cost reduced to 2/3 the original to the nearest 10,000 rounding up? sticking with lizzies (its what i know best!) the stats would be;
Sarus 5318 for 60,000
Skink 7126 Stunty 40,000
NB Reserves are NOT allowed Big guy players, or Freebooters (including wizards)
You could work this like this (for example), if a whole league decided to have reserves/youth teams, theyd have to have a reserve team (seperate to the first team) and at least ONE assistant coach. players couldnt 'graduate' to the first team until they have 8+ SP, before wich they are only allowed to play reserve games. attendances are halved for reserve matchs (as is the FF to a minimum of 1) and income is ONLY allowed to be spent on the reserve team (e.g. reserve apothacarys is ONLY allowed in the reserve team, and cannot mix and match with the first teams apothacary). also, the reserves are NOT allowed to play any one elses first team (except in SP free, non-income practice/exhibition games).
I think this would work because it means to develop good cheap players, a coach has to take time away from his first team, and only the truly didicated, and alos quite rich teams could do it - representing that a team would need to be pretty succseful before they could afford a reserve team.
What do you think?

Yeah I quite like this! It is a reward for the big clubs which I thought would fit in with the conversion for BB + real world sports.
Yeah as a ratial standpoint you would have different things for the different positions and races. You should be able to tailor make them to fit in with your style of play, but with the usual limitations!
I just thinks that's like buying them drugs to make them better players ... players grown like this should be given 'Really Stupid' and 'Bone Head' Traits also ..

I was thinking of a very complex system for this,so I dropped the idea.
I'll try to explain, Mainly its for High TR teams, they get a reserve squad,so when players get injured, killed, they can bring a player from the reserve side,Just like most big Euro clubs,To develop the reserves, you have to have a reserve league too. It would fit in nicely with a transfer list,So you could buy players from other sides, whack them in the reserves, use them in a couple of games, and promote them to the main team when injuries occur,
It was an Idea and very complicated at that,But if anybody wants to build on it feel free.

Oh, the plight of the poor teams with 300+ team ratings nowadays! Any team that gets that far will be so beset by costs that it may wither and die! Oh, if only there was someway to stash those winnings somewhere safe, where they can help the team but not affect TR! Then you could delay your TR gain until you're ready.
Well, that's what the Pink Horror Farm System is for, folks! There's a lot of rules here, so be patient.
Starting a Farm Team
How does an established Blood Bowl team get a farm team? Well, you've got to save up for it, that's how! So, every normal team now gets a Farm Team Fund. You can stash any monetary reserves you have in there instead of your usual bank. It doesn't count towards your team rating, but it can only be spent on the Farm Team. You can't get that money back.
So, now we have a source of income for the minor leagues. With this income you can by re-rolls and players for your Farm Team (which will of course use the same race as its funder). There's no apothecaries, fan factor, assistant coaches, freebooters, or cheerleaders - just the basics. Re-Rolls cost the listed price (not double), and players go at half worth (freebooter value). You can build the team up slowly. The team has its own separate TR, which includes the Farm Team Fund, The Re-Rolls, the SPPS, and the players (at normal value).
The Players
I guess it's time to explain the players. The players on these teams aren't good enough to make the majors. They all have some kind of defect in their games. So, whenever your Farm Team purchases a player, you've got to roll 2d6 on the Farm Team Defect Table and apply the results to the player you just bought:
Scrawny - Subtract 1 from the player's ST. If the player has only 1 ST to begin with, this changes to "Weak". Soft - Subtract 1 from the player's AV. Dumb - The player gains the Racial Characteristic Bone Head. If the player already has Bone Head or Really Stupid this changes to "Unskilled". Unskilled - The player must lose a skill or trait. You can choose which one. If the player has no skills or traits, change this to "Weak". Weak - The player must lose a point of MV, ST, AG, or AV. You can choose, but it can't be something that is already 1. Damaged - The player gets a Niggling Injury. Slow - Subtract 1 from the player's MV. Clumsy - Subtract 1 from the player's AG. If the player has only 1 AG to begin with, the changes to "Weak".
Oh, but that's not the only handicap given to these players! You see, it's hard to learn proper Blood Bowl in the minor league system. A farm player can only have 1 skill category to choose from. For some guys like human linemen, that's no problem, but for players with more than one category, you have to choose one and stick with it. Write the choice down on the roster with the position. I'd like to point out that Mutations can't be chosen as a skill category. These second-rate players receive no favor from the Chaos gods or warpstone from the clan.
The Game
Once a Farm Team has 11 men, it can play some matches. In fact, a Farm Team is not allowed to play unless it has 11 ready players. This is to keep those underfunded losers out of the system. The game is played normally, with a few changes:
1) Gate doesn't matter. They don't make any money from whatever fans show up to the game. For all intents and purposes, both teams have Fan Factor 0.
2) The Ref sucks. You can forget about The Eye. It'll never be on either team.
3) There's no freebooting before the match or purchasing players afterwards. Purchasing players is done on the master team's time.
4) Money from the handicap goes to the Fund.
5) There's no normal Winnings roll (or any Fan Factor roll) after the match. Farm Teams make money off of gambling. So, at the end of the game, roll a d6. If you won the game, you get +d6x10,000 to the Fund, and if you lose, d6x10,000 is lost from the Fund. The Fund can't go below 0 because of this, but you can imagine, somewhere, one of your relatives just lost a few fingers.
Promoting Players
At the normal time for purchasing players you can promote a player from the Farm Team. He costs the same as a normal rookie (and this money must come from the Treasury, not the Fund), and comes with all his defects, all his SPPs, and anything he earned from Star Player Rolls. The player can also get access to all his skill categories again.
So, you see, you might get a benefit from having this team after all. It's a free TR dump, it lets you play more Blood Bowl, and maybe you'll get a ST 4 lineman (missing a point of armour) some day.
I just thinks that's like buying them drugs to make them better players ... players grown like this should be given 'Really Stupid' and 'Bone Head' Traits also ..
..how so?

Pink Horror your idea's are very good, but why would there be a natural defect? I know how some people never get out of a youth/farm team but there are some people who do and are good enough to get into the first team but are nurtured to improve there mentality. I do like some of the ideas here though.
