Play of the Day !!!

When a Player does something spectacular, either sucess or failure his coach may nominate him for the "Play of the Day".

After the match, one Player of both Teams who is nominated for the "Play of the Day" is randomly selected for the award and earns 4 SPP.

Ok, if you are getting two MVP per match, then they will raise the limits for each experience level on the players ...

Well, I've never liked random MVP's, so I think this could be a way to replace MVP's.
Certainly this needs tweaking to prevent coaches from misusing it to get skills, for example.

It just should be a way to "award" the most recognizable thing that happend during the game.

My Blitzer fell over on a go for it 1 square from the endzone last night.
He got the "Play of the day" and earned 2 SPP


But that is open to abuse

Too easily open to abuse as you said. All you need to do is nominate a player who needs the award for his next Star player roll, then ignore everything else in the game and Voila, an instant undeserved star player roll.

Plus if the intention is to replace the MVP with this then there are players in the team which will never develop as they'll miss out on the MVP award that may have been randomly allocated. Now they'll never get it, unless in the circumstances above.

I too would like to see some mechanism for awarding MVP's that reflect the player's performance in the game.

Any mechanism I can think of is either too compilicated, requires too much bookkeeping or is open to abuse (i.e. nominating own players or opponents players).

Anyone else got any ideas?

problem is the player most deserving of then award, will already undoubtedly picked up some SPP's during the game, so giving it to the mosts deserved will just give that player double the benefit.

And choosing yourself is completely out. How many times have you played against someone who has asked to give the MVP to their already overendowed collector of MVP's who also happens to have gained 2 MA and a magical ST increase as well. when 3rd edition was at its height i can remember this being done all the time by those unscrupulous individuals more intent on creating monster players rather than playing the game.

IMO I dont see any way past the random award.

I've often thought of giving MVPs to players who score points during the game instead of random ones,for instance I had a beastman get two TDs and a cas and completion in a game then the MVP went to a guy who spent the entire game on the Bench
