Values of skills

Has anyone compiled a list of all every skill in every category for LRB5 with an approximate value next to each skill? Is such a list available anywhere as a guide for putting together players / teams? Or is there a method for calculating this?

For example, how much of the 60,000 is due to a beastman having horns? As much as 10,000 of this total figure?

I'm sure I read an article about how to put together a new player some time ago, but I have been away from the BB scene for a while, and I'm not sure if that article is still up to date or indeed if it provided a means for calculating how much each mutation is worth, for example.

Any guidance would be appreciated. I am particularly interested in finding out how much each of the 10 mutations are worth (approximately) for a house-rules type project I am putting together. Would it be unreasonable to add 10,000 for each mutation an experimental player possesses in his starting stats? Are some mutations definitely more powerful than others?

Many thanks, John :)

btw, I would just like to emphasise the 'approximate' bit... I'm aware that certain combinations of skills and / or mutations can be more potent than others and lead to a 'greater than the sum of their parts' situation. Just looking for a rough guide type- thing to get me going in the right direction.

Cheers, John :)

I did this once for 3rd edition, by feeding in the actual cost of every player and their stats and skills. A multiple linear regression gave me the value in gps for all skills on the starting team lists, provided that at least 2 player types have that skill. The method doesn't work well for skills that only one player has (e.g. Leap). and it doesn't work at all for extra skills that don't appear on any starting team (e.g. mutations other than horns and thick skull).

It gave results subsantially different from the general guidelines available for player creation, although it was roughly consistent with a system Galak was promoting at the time to evaluate the balance of newly designed teams.

I tried to extend the list of skill values by including star players, and the extra stars in the first compendium. However, I discovered that star player prices were grossly incorrect, although this has been (presumably) corrected in LRB5.

It would be a major effort to update this and would still not help for skills and mutations that are not found in standard player lists. I think you need to work that out for yourself depending on the combination of other skills the player already has.

Some comparisons have been done here, e.g. comparing Might Blow vs Piling On. I did something similar and decided LRB4 Claw was nearly as good as Block for a Big Guy (with Might Blow) and more fun. If you start comparing pairs of skills like this you can build up a list of comparative values, but they would still tend to apply to specific players.

I tthink you're referring to Galak's site, www.midgardbb.com under guide to designing new teams, more specifically: http://www.midgardbb.com/NewBBTeamBuildingGuide.html and http://www.midgardbb.com/BBTeamCostAnalysis.htm

I'm not sure whether the costs are accurate for LRB 5

Agreed ... the site needs a makeover. Pretty much everything should now be 20k even Block with Wrestle and Juggernaut in the picture.

Need to update the site. Horns might still be 10k ... hmmm.
