Death Cup, 4-way 7s

Post by Mo »

I've started painting up a Death Cup board, smaller than Death Bowl, for a 4-way 7s game. Each long arm of the cross is 10 x 20 squares, including the endzones. Widezones are 2 in. Here's a line drawing with a few rules notes tucked in:

That looks pretty exciting. How long does a match take with 7s?

A regular 7s match takes about 1 to 1-1/4 hours. Only 7 players per team on the pitch and 6 turns per half. I haven't tried the Death Cup yet.

Thanks Mo. I'd appreciate it if you could maybe post your experience with death cup game lengths once you get some games in. The only reason I've never got a true 4 team game going is the tendency for these things to stretch on forever with 11 a-side. The 7s idea though sounds like a great way to speed up a death bowl match without having to resort to simultaneous turns.

At the Death Bowl Tourney, there's only OT in the finals. Timers aren't used until OT, and then its a 2-minute turn limit per player just to make sure we wrap up before the day ends

Everyone at the games I've been in has thoroughly enjoyed Death Bowl with the 2-minute timer, and in fact everyone has ended their moves before the 2 minutes are up. Everyone just jumps right into making their most important moves, some backfield players frequently get forgotten, and it's fun mayhem all around.

I'd heartily recommend Death Bowl with 2 minute timers from the start. Maybe 3 minutes for the first half so everyone starts getting used to the environment.

Cheers,
Mo
