No Block or Team Rerolls?

Post by zephard »

Ok, before we start, let me say I am one of those people who can roll above average or statical amount of 1s/skulls on d6/block dice both in person and pbem. I accept this, and if you have played my Nuffles Blessed on MBBL, you know that I am use to the No Team Rerolls.

Now my definition of Nuffle, he showers his love on those he favors, and his love manifest it self in a sadistic manner, which means he enjoys to give his "favored" pain, i.e. I am very loved by Nuffle, hence my extra ordinary amount of 1s and skulls.

So I was wondering if anyone has play tested a league of No Block allowed on any player, totally removed from the game to make all Blocks a larger risk.

On top of that to make the game fast pace and totally disgustingly merciless price Rerolls way up so that not only are they unaffordable at the beginning but really huge TV when you finally purchase one.
People would assume Leader becomes the next most popular skill, but I think to make it an Extraordinary skill only given to the Vamp, which yes still has Blood Lust, but no one to bite.

Has anyone ever tried 1 of these two ideas? Or both togeather?

Here is the roster mods I thought, if you can give suggestions please do, you will notice that some of the rosters are not on here, that is on purpose. I also increased the skills starting with on some players, and created some other players.

To play without rerolls would certanly change the skill choices.

Without Block, the game will probably be to random.

Yep, instead of blodgers you'd have wrodgers. And lots of skills with built in rerolls. Sure Hands, catch, sure feet. Pro and Leader would become very popular.

Well I pointed out that Leader is not an option, so figured see Pro used more.

Problem with Wrestle is you got to stand back up, this really hurts those who are low MA, second it puts you on the ground, and without Block skill blocks become lot more risky, so fouling any expensive wrestler who is on the ground would start to dominate.

I first thought Wrestle would just replace Block and even had thought of giving Wrestle instead of Tackle. The more I thought about it, the less Wrestle seemed obvious due to it not leaving one standing, and the fact that you opponent might or might not use it. And you yourself might choose not to use it depending on your armor, and as the one getting blocked, it would end your opponents turn.

A blitzer is one who is trying to knock over the opponent not wrestle him to the ground, so felt that Blitzers should start with the cancel to dodgers.

As far as skills that let you reroll like pass, sure hands, sure feet, etc. well that is the bread and butter of my Nuffles Blessed. But shouldn't they be the skills of choice anyway?

Sorry, didn't mean to be so short earlier.

I wonder if the system you describe may just be dominated by whomever is luckiest? Certainly it wouldn't encourage risky play, as even an elf team would fail leaps at unacceptable rates, and only passers should ever try most passes.

Truly, I'm not sure that's a league which would be all that much fun to play in.

More risk, more wide open games. That's my thing. Less "Automatic" actions, don't punish people for taking chances!

Anyway, I've played more than enough OT games with rookie teams where both coaches had one or no re-rolls. Basically, if both teams are at even strength, the period is won by whoever throws together two decent turns around an opponent's failed turn. It's a fun experience, don't get me wrong. I just wouldn't want to base a league around it.

Thanks Jural, I know normally you give more solid explainations.

As far as the luckiest person, you might be right there, I know even with skilled teams (my Nuffles Blessed) it can come down to failling the first action in 2 or 3 turns in a row.

I put more skills on the players to try and help that from happening, yet skills that require you to skill up your team also.

What made me come up with my Nuffles Blessed and the idea of a league without TRR is how often my rerolled die was worst than my orginal. Go from a inaccurate pass to a fumble, lots of 1s and double skulls.

Of course either I would have to change the kick-off table or those rerolls would be come quite valuable.

But in the end, maybe the two ideas (No Block, and No TRRs) should not be put together in one league but kept to two distintive leagues.

Kepp the skills as normal, just take away the rerolls.

As Jural said it can be a boring league with only safe moments of action. Just hand-offs, cages and almost no blocking. And some teams like humans etc with skills like sure hands, pass, catch, dodge will have an overpower situation for a long term.

Take this human team as an example:

4 x Blitzer
2 x Thrower
2 x Catcher
3 x Line
FF: 9
AC: 3
CL: 3
Apothecary: 1
Cash: 10K

This will rock!

Fumbbl has a no Block league, it still allows re-rolls and is LRB4 but it might be worth a try when the site is back up to see what you think.
I have played a few games and it makes an interesting change but I would not choose to play that way as a regular thing.
They just ban Block so you don’t get a choice of Norse or Dwarf teams and any player who starts with Block is banned too.
