MVP Award

Just would like some outside input:
Currently my league has voted (and as the commissioner, I do like in concept) this as the current House Rule for awarding MVP:
- The three players that have achieved most SPP [in the current match] are up for the award of MVP.
- In the case that there is not 3+ players that have achieved SPP [in the current match] the remaining slots a filled randomly.
- A die roll determines which player, of the 3, gets the MVP [i.e. D3]
Historical note: the concept was decided upon on the fact that a player, regardless if they are Dead, a Journeymen or Star Player, that actually achieves something should be rewarded.
One thing we have noted is that the key players in that coaches team are always up for MVP and also tend to get it which leads to 2~4 players on a team advancing beyond normal means; though this may be due to Coaches not being used to the new rule. Also, it has been noted that
agility teams have a better chance to spread around the possibility of MVP within their players.
Any thoughts?
As a note: Dead players, Journeymen and Star Players are valid candidates for MVP,and it has occurred several times; including be awarded MVP and the coach not being able to purchase them.

If your groups happy with it, then it's fine, but I wouldn't want to play using it - it seems the poor old lineman, that did nothing all game except get beat up my the minotaur (which allowed the fancy-dan blitzers and catchers get all the glory) gets over looked again (in game terms, the lineman, that did nothing to gain SPP all game, but did the role needed).

This house rule would end hope for my Linemen skilling up. The positionals on a DE team already hog all the glory. At least a Lino with a completion or a casualty has hope of getting a MVP and thus a skill.
But on the other hand, you watch professional sports games on TV and its the "positionals" who hog the MVPs. Rarely, but occasionally, some defensive back will get an MVP nod. Usually its the offensive stars who win the laurels.
I like how the rule as it exists gives a subtle dis-incentive to use Stars and Mercs, as they could steal the MVP from the team. This house rule makes it easier to manage this risk.

We tried something like this in my league and it ends up skilling up your guys that will get SPP every game while the linemen get nothing. We revoked it shortly there after.

We use a different system.
You nominate three players and the opponent nominates three (no stars or dead players) and then you roll a D6
I find the system to be very good.

We're starting a new league, and one player came up with this idea to nominate MVP, and I would really appreciate your opinion on this one :
At the end of the match, each coach roll 1D6 :
1-2 : Your opponent choose one of your player to be awarded MVP
3-4 : The MVP is awarded randomly (like the original rule)
5-6 : You can freely choose one of your player to be awarded MVP
Only player who were eligible for the match can be awarded MVP.
Dead players, Journeymen, Mercenaries and Star Players cannot be choosen by any coach, but they can still be picked up randomly.
OPTIONNAL :
_ You can add your FAME to your roll to determine MVP
_ You get +1 to your roll to determine MVP if you won the match
_ New inducement : 0-1 : Favorable speaker (30 000 gold pieces)
You can reroll your dice to determine your MVP.
PS : this rule is NOT designed to be used fair and square (Blood bowl is a quite corrupted sport after all

).

Just choose MVP actually works pretty well for most teams.

Our league also tried a system that only gave MVPs to players that had earned SPPs in the match. We had the same problems that others have mentioned. Certain star positionals gained huge amounts of points will lineman had a hard time gaining any skills at all.
The rule we are currently using is nominate 3 players and roll 1d3 to determine MVP.

We do it in a similar fashion, but a little easier. Opponent nominates one and you roll one random. Then you chose between the two. Simple fast and gives more MVP's to those who fight bravely and does their job but don't get any SPP's.

I'm going to propose this to my league.

We just go with the chosen MVP - allows coaches to skill up specific players for specific roles if they want. Usually comes down to 'who will get a skill if they get the MVP?' but occasionally a lino gets an MVP in the hopes of spp in a later match.

Last time I ran a league we went with the "standard" MVP allocation (D16 Dice roll) with the only addition of No starplayers or dead (destroyed if an undead team!) could receive the award (re-roll if applicable)
the only reason for this was, and Im sure this has happened to others...For whatever reason on that day Nuffle hated you (more than normal) you never broke armour, No passes where Completed and no TDs scored, you accomplished nothing, even your opponent got embarrased by your crap dice and bad luck (he obviously made every dodge and caught every pass using the same dice)
at the end of the game the "dead" guy got the MVP, what a waste, I only get to play 1-2 times a week at most so just 5Spps is not much to ask.
just my opinion...

Well we used to nominate choose an mvp on the opponents team. So that the lineman who held your Big Guy up or who interupted your big plays could be the mvp as well.
Also we gave each player that played in a match 1 spp per game played.
So after 6 games each player skills up .
Keep in mind that things realy change after 6 games.
PS: Mind you we more mostly bashy teams.
Although inducements usually helped out the slower scoring teams.
