Ideas for buffing gobbos - part 4: proposal

Hi all,
I need ideas for buffing the goblin team (beyond what LRB5+ did).
This is not a thread for discussing whether a buff is appropriate - this a thread to come up with ideas for buffs that a league could use, if said league had already decided that they wanted to do a buff.

Also note that this a thread looking for a buff - not a complete overhaul: Not an overhaul of the team and not a change to the core rules of the game. Cute as those may seem, they've got almost no chance of being accepted by actual leagues.
What I'm looking for is ideas that fit well with the fluff and look sensible and balanced.

Round 3! Poll
OK, any idea supported in round 2 by someone other than the original poster is here for your voting pleasure. Enjoy.
PS, I cut Doom Divers from the list, as the game has no existing mechanics to support it.

Cheers
Martin :D

Allowing for rostered Bribes might be interesting, meaning they can still keep secret weapons on the pitch even if they are equal or higher team value then their opponants.

Would probably double the standard price though, since it would be reusable.

Allow the fieldinding of secret weapon players without their secret weapon and without having him sent off at the end of the drive. Players would loose their SW benefits for those drives.
Looney: 6 2 3 7, Stunty
Bombardier: 6 2 3 7: Stunty, Dodge

I would exlude the fanatic because of his substance abuse problem.

This I like, also letting the team has a roster of 16 and then getting the two stars players if they can afford to induce them.

Also having the option of inducing a two-headed coin so that they can automatically win the toss.

A palmed coin would actually be a pretty cool inducement. I'd price it at 80k-100k although it could be cheaper if its just for goblins.

I'm not so sure I'd bother improving goblins because they're already pretty cool. If you have to do something then I think it has to be something along the lines of:
- take "secret weapon" away from all their secret weapons (or just confiscate the weapons not the players is cool too)
- give them two cards from the miscellaneous mayhem deck for free
- make their TTM more reliable, perhaps at the price of having more goblins eaten by trolls
- more trolls!
- take loner away from the trolls (yawn)
- give the goblin coach the specialisted wetware skill "poke opposing coach in the eye without anybody noticing" level 7
- give them 1-3 extra players each drive in the form of snotling fans (these are not part of the team, have loner, and are rolled fresh each drive).

Whatever you do.... make it fun and gobliny, not some buff which is just about making them win more.

When I suggested 4 Trolls, there was an uproar!!!!

Aahz and I tested it and the gobbos STILL lost all four games at 1mill....

*whiny voice* "But they're SUPPOSED to be a joke"....

How about Squig riders?

Or Gobo Suigger - Gobbos that par-take in a mixture of watered down fungus and squig juice injections? A table of random occurances at the start of each drive or for the game maybe?

Take Secret Weapon off their SW positionals altogether (but not the stars.)

Alternately, a new inducement- the mega-bribe- 250k, 100k for goblins. A single player of your choice who doesn't have loner will ignore the Secret Weapon rule for this game. The +150k is a "deathroller tax."

0-2 50k Goblin Rocketeer 6 2 3 7 Dodge, Stunty, Right Stuff, True Stuff A

"True Stuff" Extraordinary skill

This goblin has developed a hankering for being thrown by trolls and other big guys. He doesn't squirm and squeal when being picked up and actually gives directions to the troll, making it possible to throw players more efficiently and quickly. A player with Throw Team-Mate can throw two players if the other (or both) of them has this skill and they are both next to him when making the pass. They can be aimed at different squares. Make the passing rolls separately. A player with Really Hungry will try to eat both players if he fails his roll (only make one roll). This player gets +1 to landing rolls.

Busting cages has never been this easy! As the passing rolls are made separately, it would be possible for the goblins to land on each other!

Squigs or doom divers would be my preference.

Hi guys,
here is my take:
Andromidus - a permanent bribe at increased cost might look good when you're the overdog. But when you're the underdog, that bribe could easily cost you 2 bribes, for a net loss of 1 bribe.
Probably not a good idea.

Grumbledook - any change to the basic gobbo statline is off limits, as it would spill into several other rosters. But as a gobbo big'un positional, it could work.

Mepmuff - cute idea, but it really changes the SW rules, and that is going too far. Perhaps 1 free bribe could be a suitable replacement?

mattgslater - 0-2 lineorcs makes sense. Somewhat similar to 0-2 the ST3 gobbo big'uns.

Pug - Having "skill of choice" on the profile is completely unprecedented. I'm not a fan. But heck, a gobbo positional with a really cool skill might be useful.
You said gobbo veteran - how about pro?

Duke Jan - sounds more like a nerf than a buff to my ears.

Aliboon - going above the 16 man roster breaks the core rules.
But I quite like the "2 headed coin inducement".

SillySod - just commenting on the ones that stay within the boundaries of the rules.
*Removing SW from the rostered SW-players. Check.
*2 free cards - kind of bland...
*Better TTM. IMO better OTS is cheasy. But as I've suggested before, +1 to landing without the ball could be cool.
*3 trolls. Check.
*Loner off trolls. Check.

Digger Goreman - 4 trolls might be a bit much. Maybe 3?

Pug - please, no new skills. But a squig or squig rider could be interesting.

Jural - megabribe sounds fun.

Ian - Doom divers sound like an interesting spin on what Ullis suggested.

If I sould add anything to this list, then it should be a cheap, useful non-SW star player.

Cheers
Martin
