Pre-Match Sequence

In a related thread, I'm looking at ways to structure induced FAME. My current exploration has me asking why the gate was moved so late in the pre-match sequence? Am I trampling on something I don't understand if I put it in right after the Weather table, like it was in 3rd Edition?

Maybe there's a card that affects the FAME roll?

Nope. There are two cards that give you FAME for kickoff rolls, but neither affects the Gate roll itself.

tbh, other than the fantastic volume of fans you used to get in 3ed and that it affected the winnings table not surew what point gate served, so I am glad it lost prominence and is just 2Dice + FF. I remember having to roll 30+ dice for a dark elf team once....

Not talking about that. In total agreement there. But is there a reason that Gate is rolled after Inducements? Am I screwing with the game in some subtle-yet-meaningful way by moving Gate immediately after Weather?

I guess fluffwise the weather could then affect the number of fans who show up.
For rain and blizzards you'd only roll 1d instead of 2d. That'd make sense as FF represents the hard core fans of the team who want to see them play no matter what's coming down from the skies. FF would be slightly more useful, but FF could use a small bump.
On topic though, if it's not cards, then I can't think of any reason not to change the sequence.

why not just allow 100k for the chance to roll a 3rd dice for Fans. that way it is bribes paid out to locals...
you might only get 1000 extra fans though, so it is risky
as for moving the position of the roll... I don't think anyone really cares

We hashed that over, Voyagers, but what we found was that it's just too metagamey, and two all-or-nothing: usually it either fails or nets two FAME for the match at hand (but only 10k winnings). Also, part of our objective is to add a little cash to the underdog, but we don't want to take food out of the mouths of those who've earned it. So adding FAME out of nowhere does us one better than drawing FAME off the overdog.

But why would the underdog have more fame? that is counter-intuitive (no-one mention interception rules)
I mean you are trying to add cash to lesser teams, is there anything to stop you from allowing a simple D3 extra cash at the end of the game if you are the underdog by more than 150K (any less than that and you should just suck it up.)
Don't mess with game mechanics or FAME, just house rule it. the 150k barrier should stop abuse.

Not really. Not any more than Bribes. At least with the NFL, most neutrals root for the underdog, and the refs tend to favor the favorite. The home crowd is generally louder at the big-market teams' stadiums, but the same teams have to face louder crowds on the road.
