IMPROVEMENT TABLE (2D6)
Roll Effect
Less than 2 No improvement
2 General skill only
3 - 9 Gain a normal skill
10 - 11 Stat increase (chosen by player +1 MA, +1 ST, or +1 AG)
12 Any plus roll again (-3 mod)
What do people think of this as an alternate Improvement table. I always disliked the random nature of stat improvements...
Doubles allow you to take any skill or any stat increase (apart from AV).
Mummies gaining AG... or other similarly less useful things.

Why is AV excluded? And if I had the choice between MA, ST, and AG, I don't think that ST would lose too often...
Also, less than 2 on 2d6? I thought you must be the single most unlucky person on the planet until I read the result for 12

No-one forces them to take the AG, they could just take a skill instead.
Not a fan of this tbh - to many ST increases, and to many stat increases in general. Depending on how you read it (does the "rule of double" overide the "rule of 2 and 12" or not?), you've got either a 8/36 or 10/36 chance of a stat upgrade, for which most will choose ST, compared to a 1/36 for ST, 2/36 for AG and 3/36 for MA or AG now.

I would not use this table, for the same reasons as Darkson. It also seems very random to me, with the possibility to get 2 improvements with one skill-up.

This isn't any more random than the "official" improvement table. Its less random in the fact that you have more choice over stat increases rather than random potentially useless ones.

I don't like it. I don't like that 12 means you might get two skills or the stat increases on doubles and you get to pick which you want. Looks unbalanced to me, stat increases would just be too common on every team and just wouldn't be as special anymore. I'd rather have no stat increases at all then that. I also don't see the problem with the current improvement table, as I'd just turn down a useless stat increase and take a skill instead.

True, in a sense, but nothing in the rules makes you take the "random potentially useless ones". The problem with this table is that the power stat increases (+AG and +STR) would be much more common. Terrifyingly so.

- Say I roll 12, take +ST roll again and then roll '1 and 1' or '2 and 2'. Can I take +ST again?
- I roll 2 with a player with access to only A skills (after -3 modification, standard 2 is a double and will never be general only) can I take a general skill (which would normally require a double)?
With your table the difference between a 3 and a 12 will become even larger then it is now.
If you wish to decrease the randomness of the improvement table, why not:
- add player level to the roll. (standard table)
- allow reroll for certain levels (3,5)
