Alternative Magic Question

Hi all,
I'm thinking of running a little tourney locally and wanted it to be sponsored by the colleges of magic. I reason that they create a magical isle which teams are invited to.
Round one) Each team gets a regular wizard. Possibly include a variation of the frog spell.
Round two) Each team gets a racial scroll. Now this is part 1 of my question. Has anyone used race specific spell in 6th ed? There's some info on them here http://www.rmbbl.net/svsforum/forum/vie ... f=49&t=361
Round three) A randomly selected player on each team in gifted the ability to cast a spell for the game. Some info here which may need tweaking. http://www.midgardbb.com/Variants/Spellcasters.html
I know these harken back to the old 2nd ed spells which where a lot of fun.
Do you think these ideas are feasible for a tournament?
Do you have any experience of alternative magic in the modern game?
Thanks in advance for your input.
