Patience
Other than that I would want more ideas about what you want.
Portable?
Decorative or just functional?
Added features (i. e. dice tower)?
Portable, simple, cheap, and looks nice would be model train grass mat.

$10 is enough for two pitches. The grass scratches off with a little effort. The only major consideration for this is that it is made to deform in heat. Do not leave in a hot car in Texas.
At the other end is Hirst Arts molds. Major time and/or money, not easily portable, but can be made to look freaking amazing.
In the middle is foam board. Relatively cheap, but time intensive. This is what most scenery/terrain pros use. Portability depends on design.
P. S. Welcome back!
My pitch is built into a homemade miniatures case for 400 minis. It's almost too big and too heavy.

Yes, the square size is 34mm now. Good luck with your pitch! Post some pics when it's done!

Worth mentioning MDF or plywood, though it can get heavy, fast.
There are plenty of plywood suitcase boards out there. I'm finishing off a street bowl board which I've carved out of a length of 9mm MDF. I'll post pics when done.
I've included an earlier snap of my dremel work.

A couple of us have Pinterest boards of pitches/stadiums for ideas. Take a look. Here's mine.
