Personally i think the biggest thing that got everyone to dislike star players is that several were just plain broke and were then overused. The rest imo were all just trash to sell special/individual minis. The current freebooter list still has players who help win games but at the expense of team development, while the others still arent worth the freebooter price (who really wants a hail mary player with ag 2 and no sure hands?)

Sorry, but I genuinely feel Stars are a bit like the old allies rules that allowed you to fill gaping holes in your team...
I have a Dwarf team filled with stars, and all of them started as longbeards... I guess that's just my preferred progression route..
PS Leave Snots out of this!

There goes Norse again with "I guess that's just my preferred progression route" (to make my players into Star Players personally).
That is not in question. That is everyone's preferred progression route. In fact, you can't progress with a Star Player. He's already as good as he is ever going to be!!!
And shame on you Voyager. The Unicorn was a really bad idea. If we are going to use the poorly thought out Star Players to justify the "we think that all Star Players are rubbish" campaign, we'll need a new forum. (I mean how bad was the Dark Elf called Norman Bates that had Shower Attack as a special skill).
I just wanted to know if there were any out there that would stand up and say "I would like to see so-and-so back and to hell with anyone who thinks that I'm a second rate coach".

By the by, I don't think all Star Players are rubbish, although I do agree that some were poorly thought out
. I agree with the common sentiment that Star Players unbalance the game and hide the (possibly Great) full aspects of a coaches play. I therefore do not advocate their usage and am adamant that I do not want them in my league.
I will not call others second rate coaches for the use of stars. I just think that the coaches in question may get more out of the game by developing their own main men
.
Toby ran a few polls on star players as did Neo and you can see the results there of the feelings of the vocal minority/majority as can be seen.

I like the star players, especially under the freeboot only rules. I agree that some can be unbalancing. I had the worst team in the league last season, but freebooted Borak and Grashnakk for the Wild Card playoff game, and beat a much better team (I love how Grashnakk gets 3 dice while blitzing a 3ST player). Next match, I had a lot less money, so I lost.
I think the BBRC should talk about the star players, balance them out a bit, but they should stay in as an extra team balancer. Chaos, for example, gets a lot of star player access to make up for some of its other problems (no ag players, so freeboot a goblin!)

Stars actually made more an appearance in my league with the freeboot only rules. It was the first time we actually enjoyed seeing Griff or Morg on the pitch. There wasn't a huge blanket party every drive just try to kill their star. We knew that when somebody freebooted a star it was pretty much just to "duct tape" their roster for a game.
I think in the 2 seasons that we have played we only saw about 3 or 4 games with stars.
I think I would like to see more stars if that is going to be the case.
Just no more unicorns.
