What race are Southstorm Squids?

I always thought they were just a human team, but I'd vote for sea elf after reading this thread.

Players: Sea Elves
Team Colour and Logo: Dark Red with a white stylized squid

An old team, the Southstorm Squids success has come and gone like the tide much like the only Blood Bowl championship they have won, maybe.. or did they.. The Squids are the only Sea Elven team to play Blood Bowl and will only play underwater or in very damp conditions much to every other teams annoyance.

2451: After capturing raiding pirates over the sea kingdom of Southstorm the Sea Elven King - Mesonycho Teuthis learns of the game of Blood Bowl and seeks to show the Sea Elven dominance over the land dwellers. Initial practices don't go so well as the ball floats away and the passing game is severely limited by the ocean. After capturing more pirates and sailors and taking them to the surface to show the game (they don't tend to last very long under the sea) the newly formed Southstorm Squids begin to play games on the shore or on ships to keep themselves damp.

2465: Only three years after being granted entry into the NAF the Squids face off against the Middenheim Marauders and win the Blood Bowl in a surprise result leaving many broadcasters red faced as they had already announced the winners as the Marauders

2466: The Squids team wizard Jeven Arrendil is kidnapped by the Marauders and admits he cast a spell to make everyone believe the Squids had won the game. The result is overturned.

2467: The now free Arrendil actually admits that the spell was actually to make people believe that there had been a spell cast when in fact there hadn't been one. The result is overturned again.

2468: The Worlds Edge Wanderers kidnap Arrendil and he comes clean to say that actually it was the Wanderers that had won the game as they had a grand illusion cast on them all season to appear to be the Marauders. The result is changed to the Wanderers winning the 5th Blood Bowl

2469: The Vynheim Valkyries kidnap Arrendil who clarifies the situation and states that the Valkyries also under an illusion but as the Squids had played the Marauders/Wanderers in the Blood Bowl and he had also cast the spell to make everyone believe the opposite of the actual result had happened. The NAF awards the Blood Bowl to the Valkyries.

2470: The Gouged Eye kidnap Arrendil and stomp him to bits. The NAF record keepers cheer but still can't decide who won and the results constantly change to this day.

2491: After 25 years of mediocrity and Blood Bowl V changes the Squids owner, King Mesonycho Teuthis tires of the team and gives them to his son Archietinala (known as Archie). Archie without his fathers wealth takes the team on a fundraising trip to Estalia however the ship capsizes and the whole team is washed overboard.

Present: Almost 20 years to the day of the disaster a merchant ship passes by and rescues the Squids who had been stranded on a desert island. After over 7,000 practice games on the island the Squids are ready for action once more and after arriving back in Southstorm they prepare the Fishbowl and get ready for some Blood Bowl!

I *COULD* turn them into Squidmen But yeah I kinda let my imagination go with them and they kinda turned into mermen without the fish tails

But lets be honest there were also giant spiders that played Blood Bowl and they were able to at least handle the ball and had the intelligence to learn the game Not quite what giant spiders were in any Warhammer setting

But this would the equivalant as saying a giant spider on a BB pitch can't face any direction other then north, south, east, or west.

It was in one of the DYK, as was a Giant Slug or Toad team (which were awful iirc).

The largest team ever raised was the Dark Mountain Spiders of 2338-2342. The Spider King Clakkataulak, found a vein of gold in his mountain lair and signed up all eligible arachnids in his kingdom! Over 900 were registered with the NAF.

The Spiders weren't a great success, despite their size. Even with eight limbs, they never mastered the throwing game, and their predictable 'scuttle' attack was quickly found wanting against the Warhammerers' 'steam-roller' tactics. By the time the team was abandoned in 2342, there were only eight players left.

Ok, totally forgot about that DYK.

I don't think there were any DYKs for the Icecastle Wolves, I always thought they would be Norse as well (as the Arctic Cragspiders), but I suppose they could be regular human (but Norse would make more sense). Any thought on the IC Wolves (and don't say werewolves as the Westside Werewolves were the only team that was mentioned as WW. IIRC).

There was two NAF Facts for the Icecastle Wolves (see the Lore of Nuffle) one which gave the sponsor (Wolf Runner coaches) and the other which explains that they replaced the Wuppertal Wotans (a geographic / racial replacement) after the Wotans were wiped out.

Considering Wotan is old germanic for Odin (Woden) I think it's safe to assume that the Wotans were classed as a Norse team (although Wuppertal is a German city) and thus the Wolves who were the replacement were also Norse
