High End (read more) Luxury Tournament Concept and Social
Hi All Ladies and Gentlemen of the Bloodbowl World,
Myself and another long term coach we’re gauging the concept of hosting a tournament in the north of England and would really like some feedback/ideas for the feasibly of the idea.
The key features of the tourny would be:
- 6 games
- Ruleset - nothing extravagant. Think tiered UKTC ruleset along those lines.
- Saturday/Sunday event
- North of England with easy car/railway access
- Ideally in a town with some decent bars
- Decent Hotel, lunch and dinner included both days. (Breakfast on the Sunday also)
- Gaming venue is at the hotel
- On site bar
- On site evening board games and social games (werewolf etc.)
- On site parking
- Price point: £250 per ticket
—which includes all of the above (hotel, food, hire, evening games)
- Timing: probably 2024 - definitely avoiding other major Uk tournys.
- Total places available 40-50 tickets (but could be more). Would need minimum 30 to make it possible.
We would love your feedback. Please vote and comment below on your thoughts.

£250 per ticket is 5 times more than I would be willing to pay!
Dates wise - avoid clashes with other "majors" please (Welsh Open, Water Bowl, NAFC, UKTC, Davotational, Thrud Bowl, World Cup/Eurobowl). Locally avoiding Monkeybowl would also make sense! (It would be nice if that was a major too)

As this isn't an actual Tournament Posting I've moved it out of Tournament Postings and into General.

£250 is a lot of money to pony up in one hit!

It's an interesting concept!
I did Cakebowl for £35 pp which included 3 decent meals, so add £20 for breakfasts and £40 for Friday night, takes you to £100ish. Two nights accommodation say another £100, then prizes etc. For £250 I think I would want complementary drinks, but £200 all in would not be ridiculous.
Alternatively look at Malta Eurobowl, which was less than that and included all food etc, but was in Malta and has significant economies of scale!
But then there are a lot of good big tournaments around too, so I'm not sure this will be super big...
Good luck with it,
Mike

How many nights accomadation is included? and how much for extra nights if you wanted to stay the entire weekend?

i think id find that a bit steep, or if Friday meal and accommodation is included, probably about right.
So then it would come down to logistics, when and where and what comepetes with it for my time.

Re: High End (read more) Luxury Tournament Concept and Social
£250 sounds a lot up front but if it includes a night in a hotel then that helps offset the feeling of the cost, depending on the regular base rate for that hotel.
I've experience playing in hundreds and organising dozens of (smallish) M:tG events so have some experience of peoples' feelings towards costs and there will always be a gut feeling that a high entry cost can be unattractive. Perhaps if there were two rates - one with and one without the hotel room? I realise that defeats the feeling you're going for though with the evening games. Alternatively if you can negotiate with the hotel to have discounted drinks that might help.
I think that ultimately people want to feel they're getting something for their money beyond a typical event. So if there's lots of "added bonus" stuff going on it can be more exciting; a feeling of ceremony perhaps. Things like random spot prizes, maybe options for unusual rules (difficult to get right), a secondary event on the Sunday for those who want to drop from the main event and try again at winning, mood music. I'd talk to people who are used to organising big events to get a bit of insight.

A little comparison;
For my NAFC ticket, hotel and meals for me and my non playing wife and child, I will spend less than £250 for my NAFC weekend.
