painting white stripes onto static grass.
Hey all,
I was wondering - for those of you who have done it - is there a trick to getting those nice white lines painted onto static grass? I have a few figs based, but are scared to try it. I'm assuming you just run a brush of skull white over the grass itself?

I've done it on a couple minis now and the best result I've had is to water the paint down quite a bit. This lets it go down the blades of grass (not just sit on top) and looks semi realistic.
But I've just done this on my own, so there could be better ways

I bet the main reason the police keep people away from a plane crash is they don't want anybody walking in and lying down in the crash stuff, then, when somebody comes up, act like they just woke up and go, "What was THAT?!"

I drybrush the white stripe on. I don't like the look of it when the dirt under the grass is painted white too though this may be slightly more realistic.

I add a drop of water to the white and it looks ok to me. You can see how it turned out at my site....I think Some Kinda Voodoo will be the link that gives you the clearest shot of it.

perhaps covering the base except for where you want the stripe, and then spaypainting it would work...

Here's another thing that you could do: use an airbrush to get the line on the base. You will need to cut out a 2mm wide piece out of cardboard. This will give you a very nice looking line on the pitch. I used that technique last week for a dirama base and I am quite happy with the result.

Sorry... i should have specified... Not, I mean before dullcoat/sealing. The only reason I say do it last is that after the white line's added, there's really no room to go back and drybrush/paint the grass other colrs...

I only do 1 or 2 lines per team, just for the nice touch. I use white skull dry brushed with a thin brush over the base. The last thing I do to static grass is a very watered down varnish to lock in the static grass and keep it from falling out. So far, the lines look pretty good and I've never had static grass come apart.
