i would say black or white depending whait colour scheme you are doing. Black for that dark sinister look, white if yer trying for a bright vibrant look.

It depends on the effect you want to achieve. I have been experimenting with mixed undercoats lately. Painting the lower lying regions black works a treat for giving the clothes a decayed look. Some colours, such as Red Gore, also look completely different on different undercoats.
