channelling Nazgob
My attempt at a harlequin elf team. Sadly l cannot paint.
positions are distinguished by strip colour, linos black and white, blitzers red and white, throwers blue and yellow and catchers yellow and black.

These are great, no need to downplay your paint skills at all. A couple more layers and some more attention to the bases and they'd be even better. Nice one!

Really original idea, I find Harlequins well suited to represent a Pro Elf team.

Hardly original but they work. spent a year worrying about carving off the backpacks and then decided that I lacked the skills for it.MattDakka wrote:Really original idea, I find Harlequins well suited to represent a Pro Elf team.
thanks Aflo. never like to mess with the bases as I am trying to go for fancy playing pieces and think they need a BASE as it were. I do have about three coats on the figures, how many do you put on?
i would say I am no more than competent as a painter, and barely that. Cannot see any more is half the problem.

I like how you left the hilts on the blitzers. It reminds me of a knuckleduster that Prince would use.

Did I hear my name mentioned?
They look good - your freehand in particular. I have to agree about the backpacks - those things are really attached, and I think removing them could ruin the models very easily.
As for numbers of layers, I typically go for anything from 5 to 10, depending on what I'm doing - no idea how Aflo works.

I usually use about 4 layers plus a shade then maybe plus a glaze but I use alot of blending while the paint's still wet so it gives the effect of feathering with a greater number of layers but takes less time once you get the knack for it.
The freehand is neat and the colours bright but almost every colour is lacking depth which is the biggest area you could improve on. Now I don't know if you'd like to do this on these guys as they're good to go but it's well worth experimenting with some shading (as opposed to highlighting) maybe even with some more interesting colours thrown in for instance: some purple mixed in the red/blue and/or a little bit of orange/brown mixed in with the yellow.

Photoed with a phone on the table and that washes it out a bit. Also l undercoat white as otherwise l cannot see it clearly. Never do more than three coats though. Will put sand colour under yellow but otherwise it tends to go over white. The strips are squares not diamonds cos they looked awful, all odd sizes.
Thanks for the positives though, l look at what you guys do and weep

A simple tip for those diamonds - pencil them in over the undercoat, then play "colouring in".
