Advice On Dark Elf Color Scheme

Post by nerdkingdan »

I am not the worlds greatest painter, frankly I have trouble with even seeing some colors, especially in the green blue range.

Any way, I have 2 test models, converted from dark elf corsairs, just wondering if you can all help me pick a scheme.

I like the green purple one but it looks a little like the green goblin, the orange purple one is nice but I'm not sure how it looks.

Nether model is finished, but the green purple one is closer to done.

Here's an example of how the Green Goblin look can turn out:

Painted by Pitch Invader/Laughing Ferret. They're a striking bunch.

I think I'd prefer to see the purple+orange, though. Reminds me a bit of the original Elfheim Eagles' color scheme.

Oh wow I forgot about the Elfheim Eagles.

I have a bunch of 2nd edition elves I'd been pickup up over the last two year or so, to do that team... no wonder I had orange purple on the brain in fact I got my last model for it a few weeks ago so I can start painting them. Thanks you saved me from painting two teams in the same color.

Green Purple it is!

Or I could try blue instead of orange.... Hmm...

Cream would look great with that purple, as long as its properly distinguished from the flesh

I did mine green and purple, plan to do a second Ed elfheim eagles as well! But personally I like the suggestion of cream and purple. Something different for dark elves... Green and purple does look good, but it's quite common.
I quite like the occasional dark elf team done incompletely non traditional dark elf colours, like red and white...

I am working on doing a test of blue and green. Orange Purple is out, I really want to save that for my 2nd edition elves.

I would definently mix in some cream/bone color for details and 'connection points'. Would really stand out and give character.
The green-purple works for me, but I would back the green-blue as well. In that case you could let the blue areas start in black, turn purple and then end in blue by watering down your paint and/or just give it a heavy layer of dark wash in the end. I would start with the blue and fade in-ward.

I got sick of seeing purple/black, purple/red, purple/some other colour dark elves...

Mine are turquoise/gold and that seems to work.

If i had to choose Id go purple/orange, just because its not green....

orange purple looks best mate. I think the Hue of the geen does not match the purple well, however the orange 'pops' and looks better

Well I thought I would let you all know how it is turning out...

Orange purple is going to be my pro elf team paint scheme so I am going to do that, but with different models.

Cream Purple seems like a good idea, but my cream + purple didn't look all that good, I just don't have the skill to pull it off.

I tried blue purple, and I like it.. However its just not as striking as the hobgoblin green team. I wish I was a unique snow flake, but someone having done that scheme is the only reason not to do the green. It just looks great, I can go to sleep at night knowing I came up with it on my own, even if it has been done.

I will say after seeing the models in that green goblin scheme linked above... I actually added more models to my team, I redid my blitzers and witch elves into a combo of what I had and eldar wych elves, I'm very happy with the results.

Any way I'm going green purple, GREEN GOBLIN... oh well it just looks great.

Any way thanks for the advice, I almost painted my team orange purple... I would have been pissed when I remembered my pro elf plan.
