Black fibreglass resin board

Post by Chris »

So spotted this beast at salute. £50 unpainted, £90 painted and they were selling a fair few. There is an additional range of stands, towers etc that go round the outside, but they aren't on the website yet and I didn't think to take pictures...

Liar! You are working out how to get such a purchase past the significant other. Tell them it will make a nice door stop.

If you cannot stall out for an 8 turn drive to score with dwarves then you need to go and play canasta with your dad..if you can find him.

True! I struggle enough with the small packages :-)

Looks cool, but that isn't the issue.
The pictures and text don't give an idea of how thick the fibreglass is, and if it isn't pretty substantial then the whole thing would be very bouncy and insecure, and prone to twisting along the long sides.
Personally I'd have to fill the underside with expanding foam, and mount it on an mdf base.

It was maybe 4mm thick. It felt like I could clobber my opponent over the head with it and have it survive. Consequence of that is the weight combined with the size is its not something you can easily carry on foot.

Was very tempted, but lack of cash, combined with the size (on the train) meant I didn't, but I think I'll eventually get one, as will the club.

It felt like it would sag if you put all your weight on it, but for 20-odd miniatures, not a problem.

Downside for me was the length - to long to fit on the average table here, so would end up playing lengthways.
If the turn tracks etc were on the long side would be better, but I don't know if that's practical.

That was my thought, too long for a tourney where we play endzone to endzone and the standard board barely fits on the table. This one looks real cool, but it would take a lot of space. Maybe sideline play at the head table.

Putting the dugouts and the counter tracks down one side would make it a lot more attractive to buy.

Don't sell yourself short mate I'm sure your packages are at least average sized

I agree about it being too long. Rather than adding the dugouts to the side of the field, I actually think the better option would be to have the dugouts on a separate piece completely, allowing you to put them wherever worked best.

Did you see the accessories they had for it? They didn't have them on display but you could ask to see a few pieces. Perhaps they are why it is longer as not as aesthetically pleasing with the large gap on one side then. But they seemed quite open for suggestions, if enough want the more common layout they might be able to make it though that could mean no side bits.

With side accessories it could make a really nice home or top table pitch. It just wouldn't work well for a pitch I take to a tourney. Now I'm curious to see what else they had to go with it.
