Hope I don't come across as though I am "piling on" - been painting for 25+ years and used to paint for GW, so I know that the first thing people look at when they pick up a mini is the face.. one of my old colleagues once did an experiment with a space marine scout - sprayed black, lightly drybrushed blue, then the face was painted, one shoulder pad and one knee pad with SM icons. Everyone raved about the mini, no-one even noticed it was 80% unpainted because the eye is drawn to key areas...

always paint the face first, the rest can wait...

Eh, I can trust what you say. Critique is easier to handle from people who can back it up with their work. I admit I looked through your old posts before I replied to you the first time. I wouldn't have replied different in any case but it was notably easier to listen after you posted your pictures.

That's an interesting story about the space marine and it matches what some articles I've read about human cognition. As social critters, we read faces as a matter of instinct. If that's the first place someone's going to look it's the last place I should skip steps.

Part of my of my problem is that I don't so much like painting as I like painted models. Conversions are fun but painting is a chore so I'm always looking for work arounds. I am an incredibly slow painter so my patience runs out about 2/3 the way through most projects. I stop wanting something done right and start wanting it done. In this case, I wanted my models to be playable soon so I just blitzed through the last steps. I would have been better off shelving the project for a month and returning when I was properly motivated.

you're talking to a guy with at least 20 half started projects (or half finished for the optimists out there  ), I think you did great to get them done, it's more than I have achieved in the last decade.. :blue:
