I don't met this guy yet in Spain (he is living near my town in Barcelona). But I already advice him to stop this kind of scratching+casting.

I guess he as sculptor could do much better things that these ones...

It’s an interesting debate and I can see things from both sides.

It is annoying that there are some great models out there that you can no longer buy from the manufacturer. That means the only way to get it is from somewhere like e-bay. People pay daft prices for some pretty hideous models just because they are OOP (ironically sometimes they are still available) or were from a limited edition. I’d be interested to see how a collector would react if they were to buy a model believing it was genuine and later find out it was a very good copy.

I buy models I like and want to paint and convert, I have quite a few rare or very old ones that have been cut up for conversions and it is frustrating to come up with a cool conversion in my head only to find out the model is going for silly money on e-bay. The Wulfen and Diaz daemonettes spring to mind, though those were great models unlike that awful necromunda gang that is really rare.

I’m sure not many have much sympathy if GW were to lose sales to recasters but ultimately the more it is encouraged then sooner or later they will start targeting the smaller companies too. It is very easy to make copies of existing models and a significant part of the costs for making models is the creation process. So purely for self interest I’d advise against buying recasts and complaining if you do get one. The one time I was caught out the seller used a pic on Grashnak sprayed white and what I got was a poor quality grey primed recast. So I’m guessing the original model was the one in the pic which I thought I was buying.
