I like them human-sized. That's what sets them apart from the other ST5 players, and I find them a bit more menacing for it.

Does anyone make small mummies, though?

i agree on this.
Also it is impossible to have something fully accurate. (just think about the thrower who always has the ball because miniature is designed like this, meaning there may be several balls on the pitch)

But my thrower has a clear base ring colour...

Have to say for me fluff trumps most other things. With a max (unless someone is cheating) 22 players on the field while I can't remember skills I can remember what str people are, well as long as the models aren't proxies!

So I have no problem with flesh golems being bigger than mummies desite having lower strength, because after all they are poorly made frankenstiens monsters.

I'm very happy to see that the numbers have gone in a better direction and that now only 38% of you are wrong. I would have been super annoyed had this poll somehow convinced the manufacturers that the majority of people want puny little mummy models and the market was suddenly flooded with a bunch of worthless figures.

If you still find yourself in disagreement with my sound logic then you should consult this handy scientific scale I constructed below:

ST1 ST2 ST3 ST4 ST5

So you know, human sized ones are the best. Too many coaches will understimate them, thinking they are ST4 if they remember they are stronger than most players, or ST3 if they think it's just a guy in dirty white costume, and so they will be more effective. QED :smoking:

Shame 62% of people are wrong. I hope miniature makers aren't swayed by the obvious error they've made.

So by that 'logic' human/slann/welf etc catchers should all be stunty sized, no taller than a goblin or halfling? And dwarfs should all be 'human' sized?

It's a shame that the market has already been flooded with so many 'useless' figures...

Or maybe that sort of 'logic' doesn't apply in a 'fantasy' setting?

Funny you should mention that...because Human/Slann/WE catchers SHOULD all be ST3 based on there size.

And Gutter Runners should stay ST2 but be given stunty.

Dwarves are a tricky one. I may just have to let them break the rule for lack of better options.

And don't hate. I didn't make the rules...I'm only pointing out where the holes are. :P

This is where the logic of the "size correlates to strength" breaks down for me.

I like many big minis, and I would like to see some subtle size difference in player size on a team. However, game balance wise, I have no desire to face ST3 wood elf catchers! I also don't want gutter runners dodging on an unmodified 2+ anywhere!!!

An NFL wide receiver may be taller than an offensive lineman...but taller certainly doesn't mean stronger.

I get the advantage of size to strength for reference. I disagree with the notion that it "obviously" or "only" should be done this way.

I start talking ST3 catchers and the counter argument is always "game balance."

Well there is more than one way to balance a game. Wood elf catchers, for example, could lose any number or combination of their starting skills to make up for the additional point of Strength. Personally I think this stat line would work just fine:
0-4 catcher 100,000 8337 catch, sprint GA SP

Human catchers should go -1 MA:
0-4 catchers 70,000 7337 catch GA SP

Gutter runners lose access to G skills normally to help keep them squishy:
0-4 Gutter Runner 80,000 9247 dodge, stunty A GSPM

My point being, I have no interest in making the game unbalanced. Just filling in some of the obvious holes that leave me wondering why the base format was diverted from. It may be a game of fantasy but it still has rules. I believe those rules should be adhered to whenever possible. The rule for a base humanoid in blood bowl is 6338. A catcher therefore should be ST3. Mummies are ST5, therefore should look VERY LARGE. These are rules, people. Rigidly adhered to rules.

GW mummies were always human-sized up till a few years ago.

I don't see why a human body would grow in size by being embalmed.

This thread has made me second-guess my Vortice flesh golems. Where are they finding the parts to build a ten foot tall Frankenstein monster?

In Mary Shelley's Frankenstein the monster is very large, bigger than any normal person.

The Mummy could be an ogre mummy...or the remains of a really massive human man with a thyroid disorder. It's insignificant. What is significant is that it is super awesome that we are finally starting to see game pieces that are represented by the proper size according to their stat line. And for the record...those Vortice Golems are some of the best sculpts I've seen to date for that type of figure. People that are complaining about the size of that figure give me the same feeling as folks that complain about spicy food.
