I always start with the darkest colors first and build up to the lighter ones on the high points. Experiment with mixing a bit of Bestial Brown (GW Paint) into the flesh for the base tone, then gradually add more Elf Flesh color to the mix with each layer of paint. Three or four layers of graduating colors, or "blending" will look fine.
Try it out and yes, practice on cheaper mini's

well when i started drybrushing i had too much paint on the brush. You need to wipe practialally all the paint off the brush then lightly brush with the tip of the brush. You may already know that but ill just say it in case you dont.
And please post up a pic of your work so we can help you more, or flame you!

Don’t worry.
It can take ages.
I have been painting since 1995 and have only really got to a stage where I really like the finished product in the last three years or so.
My problem is in finishing a project.
I have 4 teams which have some completed players, and other players unpainted or just undercoated. 1 team almost completed, 1 team undercoated black.
ianwilliams is right, grab some minis you dont care about and practice practice practice.
When I get a digital camera sorted Ill post some pics.

Some people like cupcakes exclusively well. Myself I say there is not, nor aught there be, nothing so exalted on God's grey earth as that prince of foods: the muffin.
