Some of you might've gathered that I'm currently working on my pact team/mixed race project. I'm aquiring minis for it, started painting minis etc etc. The whole plan is to have two sets of each "faction", so me and friends can play and mix our teams to our hearts content. I'll ofcourse limit myself a little, like I won't get skaven linemen cause noone will use them. If they would, I've got skaven lineman minis to use as "proxies".

Anyways, my biggst problem at the moment is human minis. Rather, what minis to use as linemen and what minis to use as blitzers. It's decided that I'll stick to 2nd edition minis as far as possible so I'm using 2nd edt humans.

Now, here's the problem. I've got one blocker, three blitzers and four linemen. Also have throwers and catchers, but never mind those. I will need twelve linemen and two blitzers in the end. Original plan was to use the linemen and the blitzers as linemen and the blockers as blitzers. Started painting one of the blitzer/linemen today and I was thinking "hey, I should get a second opinion on this".

Image
Here's a pic with two painted linemen and one blitzer/lino between them. In front is a blocker/blitzer. I've marked the big differences with green on the blitzer... the other blitzer/lino mini doesn't have as obvious a chest plate as this guy does. Ofcourse the blitzer doesn't REALLY look like a lineman, but since I want to use as many minis I've already got as possible I'm leaning towards the "blitzer as lino, blocker as blitzer" sollution. I know the kickers look alot like linemen, but I really don't have any. If I would go with blitzers as blitzers I'd have one excess blitzer, one excess blocker and only four linemen, leaving me in need of atleast eight more of them.

What do you tink? Is it too damn far fetched to use the blitzer as a lineman? I'll be using colour coded base edges by the way, so there will never be any real doubt or confusion. I can remove some of the extra padding (like on the legs and hands) and that will probably make them more alike.

I know in the end it comes down to me and the people I play with, I just want to bounce the idea around a little. I love the blocker minis and would hate to never get to use them in play... I have two human teams as it is, the 3rd edition plastics and metal teams. I don't need a third. =D

Cast your vote please... =)

Oh btw... there will NEVER be two human positionals on a team. Either it's all linemen, or linemen AND a positional. Bear this in mind too...

Cheers!

I say; use them blitzers als lino's.

You could give the Blocker al slightly different paint job.... or just call that Blitzer (Lino) your captain, so he got some extra fluffy armour

Altough the best thing, I think, is ,as you said yourself, to remove the Pads and Extra armour..... no-one will notice, and so he also got a totally different pose then the rest of the lino's, which is nice

I say go with blitzers as linemen.

I don't see the extra padding as a problem, but if it's bothering you, why not add a little extra padding to a couple of your linemen (give one extra chest armour, another extra thigh pads) so you've got a transition between the different types for your linemen. Plus, this'll probably be easier than filing down the blitzer's armour.

I say buy the rest of my Human minis and you'll have pleny of each. :D

Seriously, I don't think it matters if you use the Blitzers as Linemen or Blockers as Linemen. Personally, I Use Blockers as Linemen and Blitzers as Blitzers but you're baseringing them so all up to you. I doube I'd even remove the extra padding/armor from the Blitzers if I used them as Linemen. Maybe they get paid more or they inherited the special armor.

Wow such a long post for that !

Well alternatively, you can use red coloured bases for the Blitzers. It will be easier and let you sleeping during the night !

As long as you have your color coded base rings it won't matter.

hmmmm.

You should use linbcs->bkfs then take and use kln-->Bkfs then maybe....
I am very confused. I've never seen all of the human models from 2nd edition but I would suggest using blitzers a linemen, maybe you could dremel/file of the knuckle dusters and brestplate bumblidies on the blitzers so they look more plain. Also you could bend their legs with pliers so that the lookless dynamic. Although this may cause divits or groovs in the model from the plyiers you can just green stuff over them.

I'd go for blockers as linemen, the static position fits in with the position of the 'real' linemen better that the blitzer does. That said, they'd both be fine...

Oh and the paintjob it great.

Um, you're thinking too much about this.

Heh, sounds like me! ;)

And I say go for it with the blitzers-as-lineman. They might not match up with lineman pose-wise, but the blockers donn't really match up size-wise, so you're making a sacrifice either way. File off some of the studs and pads you circled if you'd like, and with the colored base rings you should be all set anyway.
