Heya all,

I just spray painted some minis and to my shock for some reason their surface is spotty and irregular - of course it's not crazily up and down but certainly noticable. I've never had this problem before.

Anyone know why this has happened and how I can prevent it in future?

How old is the paint??

I've had this happen - I think it's caused by a partially blocked nozzle. Try cleaning out the nozzle or swapping it with one from another can.

Also, remember to clean out the nozzle after each time you use the paint.

That sucks PianoDan. Maybe even get a whole new nozzle.

yea... you may have to swap the nozzle with another spray can. Remember to turn the spray can upside down and spray for a second or two to clean out the nozzle.

I guess this is the white spray?

this has happened to me before.. it is not just the nozzle, it is also how much you mix (shake) the can before you spray... you need to do this a LOT!

finally, make sure your first spray is into the air for a few seconds to get the lumps away before spraying the model(s)..

this once happened to me on a commission and I had to scrape the undercoat off with a knife and start over again... luckily the end result was OK, but it was time consuming and annoying!

Listen to Norse, he knows all about using white primer spray (though don't try to use it instead of clear coat)

I had this problem too one day... I thought that it was a problem of humidity... (hmm actually it was not a brilliant idea to undercoat that Space Marines squad nearly under the rain... )

OMG... I would die if that happened to me...

yeah probably not shaken enough, could be moisture (ie water in the air) dont ever bother spray work if its raining... anyway real men paint undercoats :p

ha, spray-painting is so much easier and (well, generally) gives a perfectly smooth result... hmmm... though I guess not always :S

Yes, this is white spray paint, and also the first time I've used white spray paint before so maybe that's the prob.

I've had the sme problem, I suspect due to a high humidity ..

the matt varnish from GW seems to have similar problems all the time btw

thanks for the heads up - I bought some of that today

you might want to give it a try first on a not painted fig ..
