Burgun's workbench (more kit bashed orcs)

Post by burgun824 »

So I've decided to do the trendy new thing around here and start one of these threads where I share with you what I'm currently working on. I get chunks of time to do hobby fun here and there so occasionally I'll necro this thread and post some more pictures. I'm positive that I'm not nearly as skilled as some of these other very talented folks that run these types of threads, but I enjoy doing this so the feedback is welcome.

Having said that let me start off by showing you some WIP pics of the first few models from my new orc team kit bashed from 40k parts (which is also a trendy thing to do apparently).

I've started with the Black Orc Blockers that I've used Ork Nobz for.

My inspiration for the BOBs was the old Road Warriors wrestling team. These two are currently affectionately referred to as Hawk and Animal.

I used Space Marine and Ork shoulder pads to broaden the figs and make them look a little more footballish. Weapon snips and clean up was a challenge but worth it in the long run. I am pleased with the way they turned out.

Here is one of my upcoming Lino figs next to a BOB for a size comparison. I think they look very ST4.

Thanks for looking. Criticism is welcome.

Sorry for the links folks, but the site is giving me fits about posting the actual pictures over here. I'm working on it.

EDIT: Bummer. I keep getting "It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image." warning and it apparently doesn't seem to matter which host it comes from.

I've added a link to the first post for the album. I hope this makes up for it.

I am liking this, great start. However, I think using Space Marine shoulderpads always screams out "Hey, I'm using Space Marine shoulderpads!" wich, I'm not a big fan of.
Using those nobz looks real sweet though, much better choice than.. mine :-?

What's your colors gonna be?

looks like a great start. i think the nobz make batter BB bobs than the WHB black orcs do (although i used them in my orc team :-? )

i used space marine shoulder pads on my 1st orc team, but on its blitzers not the bobs, i think it gives them quite an 'American football' look but as slackjaw says they do always look like space marine shoulder pads, but i did not find that a problem.

i would be tempted to add some more armour to the bobs, make them a little more AV 9. maybe a hand swap for something like the WFB black orc hand?

i remember theses two but i think it was when they were called 'the legion of boom'

looking forward to seeing the rest of the team.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I still haven't had any luck figuring out what I'm doing wrong with the images. I've tried every form of BBcode I know and it doesn't seem to work.

I haven't decided yet. Red pops to mind as the first and obvious choice for Orcs because of their obsession with it. However, it's been done a couple of times to say the least. I had also toyed around with a baby/powder blue theme...then SOMEONE came along and busted some of those out. :D My final thought was to poll the community. I thought that might be fun.

Anyhow, I've not completely decided yet and it could be this time next year before I get a chance to paint them with how hectic my life gets, so I'm in no particular hurry to decide that yet.

I don't either and that's the look I was going for. I figured it will bug some people because they aren't "Orcy" looking enough. I'll hold artistic license here. That and I had to do something with them. They are definitely not getting used in any Space Marine armies any time soon.....or ever again for that matter.

looking forward to seeing them painted, its canny annoying that this site will not allow you to post pictures anymore though. I hope the glitch is fixed soon.

Do you mean this reffering to the actual size of the picture or the dpi?

Alright folks. I got a few minutes to assemble the linos. They're not really all that exciting but life has been extra busy the last couple of weeks, so I needed something simple to work on.

All 4 linos
1 & 2 front
1 & 2 back
3 & 4 front
3 & 4 back
Linos with BOBs

Next up will be blitzers!

Also - before someone mentions it...after I took these pics I noticed a couple of rogue bullet holes that were promptly filled with green stuff.

looking good mate - my only question is why you used all the same heads? I guess on one hand it's good because it makes them look like they are wearing uniform, but I never really thought of Orcs as conforming that much in any case.. I like the idea of using different heads to give personality...

my team's pretty dated now I guess, but the guy on the left (Stabba) is hiding a blade behind his back, and always got DP for first skill whereas the guy on the right (Slugga) was usually on the corner of my cage, and usually went down the Block Tackle route..

these are my blitzerz - they all have red tatts to mark them as different, as well as big teef too. I also had some fun with prosthetic limbs on a couple of them, who always got MB as first skills..

This is it. I struggled with this because I kept going back and forth between doing them completely random/wholey unique and looking like they were actually wearing some type of uniform. Ultimately I went with the uniform theme (even though it is a very conformist, non-orcy ideal).

I have a few reasons for this. It started out with the BOBs. I liked the look of the shoulder pads on them so much that they all ended up getting them. Then once I got to laying out the bitz for the linos & blitzers I thought that the positionals needed to at bear minimum have some sort of conforming features to each other to look like they belonged on the same team. Plus the Space Marine shoulder pads are very clean looking (which I know isn't very orcy but frankly...they're my team, I'll do what I want :D ) and I felt they naturally lend themselves to the more "professional uniform" look. I also believe it will help my opponents to identify each piece quicker and easier so they don't have to keep asking me which postional the figure represents. You'll see this as I post more pics in the future. Ultimately, this last one is probably the best excuse I've got for it outside of "because I liked it." :-?

Finally, this team started under the concept of getting a Kansas City Cheifs theme. I wanted to do a series of teams that were based on the original 8 AFL franchises (I say franchises because I wanted to go with their most current look - i.e. Jets instead of Titans & Titans instead of Oilers, but more on that later). My humans are a Titans theme ...also because I live in Nashville. Anyway, I thought Orcs -> Red -> Chiefs (or likely Cheefz in this case). It fits and I wanted the more professional look for this reason. I still don't know if I'll do that or not, but it's the club house leader right now.

Love the look of your boyz though. Nicely done.
