"Vampire" team using night goblins and squig hoppers

Post by dines »

Well I'm in the process of accquiring mini's for a vampire team and stole the idea of using night goblins and squigs as vampires from Garion. Now I just need to decide the colorscheme.

I used the spacewolf grey as a skincolor for my chaos dwarves and like the result:https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/b ... directlink
but it might be a bit boring with two teams sharing skin color... Even though it could be combined with white clothes for a pale smurf style team.

Another option is painting the goblins as (ugly) humans regarding the skintone, but then I need to find a suitable team color for the clothing and the squigs/vamps.

There is allways the classic night gobbos, it works, but again on the boring side.

If I like the minis, I might broaden the range to be able to make an underworld and gobbo team as well, but that still undecided.

Smurfs! :smoking:

But don't smurf them grey, that's not a very smurfish colour! Smurf them blue, with white clothes (I would use normal goblins here, as night goblins have too much clothes), like a proper smurf is smurfed! :D

Actually the whole 'smurf' idea is better suited to an actual goblin team, with Trolls as Papa Smurf and Gargamel! :orc:

For this team, maybe something like hot pink and neon green, something completely over the top!

Human skin tone for gobbos, dark red hoods and dark purple robes, squigs dark purple with dark red markings.

IMO, night goblins can actually make a really interesting team. Green skin mixed with another colour on the robes makes them really rather vibrant.

Here's an example. My Chaos Dwarf team:

(the big guy has been painted now, but I'm too lazy to take another picture)

By using the bright purple (which was nicely ofset by the green) but keeping some grey on the robes I made the team really stand out. I would aboslutely love to see the same thing done in yellow or turqoise as well.

I should point out that this whole post was made purely because I'm very firmly in the "Goblins should be green!" camp.

Nice input everyone.

Thechosengobbo> Wow your team looks cool! Nice idea with keeping the squigs and hoods the same color, kinda binds the team together

I've decided to follow your guys pick, so when the last mini's arrive I'll go with the option with most votes.

Regarding the smurf idea, after a quick google check, I can see that it's not really new:
http://z9.invisionfree.com/Lords_of_Albion/ar/t2336.htm
But it looks pretty cool. I gonna go with orange/red squigs rather than his green ones if the votes fall in favor of the smurf style team.

If the whole team is going to be light blue and white, why not do the squigs white too? Would really make the team stand out, and unify the team a little more like mine (thanks for the nice comment btw). Plus having white squigs frees you up to paint the squig riders (or a single squig rider to be Count Luthor) red instead, as you shouldn't really have too many of them on the team for most of the league.

I guess it's too late, but it seems like spider riders would make better vampires, with Hypnotic Gaze = Webs.

Thechosen and Gaixo> I've decided to use squig hoppers as the vamps as it doesn't make too much sense for a squig to carry the ball. Spider riders would also make sense, but I prefer night- to forest gobbos and the spiders are imo a bit too big for the bb field especially if you have 6. And squigs are way cooler than spiders 8)

So this is my vampires: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catal ... prod840929
This is the gobbos: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catal ... prod840895
I might buy this guy as count Luthor: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catal ... prod840846

Regarding the colorscheme, I've also thought about blue or white squigs instead of the contrasting orange/red ones... Still undecided on that one, might play a bit around with photoshop to see whats best.

Thx for the votes, Smurfs it is.

Im picking up the gobbos today and 5 squig hoppers are in house and ready for priming. Now I just need to get my hands on the night goblin boss and a sixth squig hopper (and eventually some more figs to be able to use them as gobbos/underworld etc.), but I'll start priming and painting the ones I have first.

As much as I think gobbos should be green at all times, I do look forwards to seeing how these turn out...
