Re: Painting red
I have no idea what the current colours are, nor do I know exactly what you mean by British tunics, but for me a good crimson colour (like Spartan cloaks in 300) would be
black undercoat
scab red base coat
a dark red or dark brown wash
scab red second base coat
50/50 scab and blood highlight
final blood red highlight
never go higher than blood otherwise the red will be more orangy and "pillarbox" coloured.. if that is the look you want then start with white undercoat and then follow robsoma's directions..

Re: Painting red
Norse's method is more or less what I would use for a standard red, though probably with a deep orange highlight brought back into line with a wash/glaze or two of darkish red/purple depending on what other colours I was trying to contrast with.

Re: Painting red
My red combo is :
Black undercoat
Red Gore
Red Gore + Blood Red (50/50)
Blood Red
Black wash (very watery)
Blood Red
Blood Red + Blazing Orange (start with just a tad of orange, if still to red add another tad)
Make sure to water down your paints (my favorite ratio is 50/50).
The picture is not a BB player but gives you an idea of the result.

What is that thing in the picture above?
Looks like a Muppet on the warpath to me, but then again I've been known to see things ... differently.

Re: Painting red
interesting range of minis.. well enough sculpted for quite a strange concept..
I guess they are suitably alien to be used as slann, though I could also see them as underworld creepers (they look like worms, and worms creep under the world, right?

Nah,
They're hairless dwarfs through and through.
The potbelly fits them perfectly.
Short legs.
You should watch the short animation they made.
Just watch a Quar run they're just funtastic.
