How do you paint five o'clock shadow?

Got my Jim and Bob minis in the post ( http://talkfantasyfootball.org/viewtopi ... =7&t=33775 ) and I'm using this picture as a painting reference=

Bobs got a pretty thick five o'clock shadow, any idea how to replicate that on the mini? I heard there was a type of brush that can help but I have no idea what it looks like.

Not sure never done a 5 O'clock shadow, it makes me think of Desperate Dan so maybe lots of small dots either painted or a extra fine rotring pen.

Nice link Dazlamb, Darren Latham's a quality mini artist. The technique for stubble in said article is essentially the same for how I did the stubble on my Bengal mighty Zug from a while back. No need for stippling really, just add some grey to your skin tone and apply it where you want thinly so as not to obscure the highlighting below completely then re-highlight with your new grey-ish colour plus bone or white as necessary; well within your technical capability Arthur.

Very thin washes with everybodies favourite, Devlan Mud. Several coats very, very thinly applied over fully highlighted skin until you get a shade you're happy with. Takes care and patience, but it's worth it. Will take some pics of minis I've done this on if I can get them not to be crap (pictures that is)

I guess you could also look at some NMN (Non Metal Metal) guides as the good ones use the light source as well, they will give you some ideas on how to decide where to put shade and where not, then the devlan mud route may well be a good route

I used successive glazes of fortress/codex grey.

I forget which.

I go super simple and do some thin washes of black ink mixed with a little silver mixed in.
