The Slannsburgh 'Stealers - update 19/12/12

Yo,

basic formula for my new slann team; WH40k minis I currently own + greenstuff = GW compliant slann roster

Rules I set myself;

1 - the team must look like they are a BB team, with pads and spiky bits and everything.
2 - I want to use minis I own and spend as little as possible on new minis.
3 - each position will use a different type of mini (see below)
4 - the team must be ready for NAFC 2013
5 - I don't want the team to look like a BB space-bowl team from the future type team.
6 - there must be a uniformity of species/race across the team so they look like a team

Based on all of the above I've decided to use;

- Genesteler hybrids as linefrogs

- Purestrain stealer as krox

- Termagaunts used as catchers and star player

Any comments/ideas will be most welcome :)

Dfunk.

I have had a similar idea, but taking from a wider variety of GW models.

They would still use stealer heads but I was going to drill out the eyes and add the large ones from the chaos spawn (I bought several extra ones off e-bay). The bodies and legs will be kroot with the leg spines cut off whilst the arms will be from fantasy ghouls.

To Bloodbowl them up a bit I was going to give them kroot shoulder pads and loin cloths from either dire avengers or dark elder warriors.

I hadn’t got to the stage of working out how to differentiate between catchers, blitzers and linemen yet was considering either how they are positioned, colour of skin (paler for catchers and darker for blitzers) and maybe adding areas of yellow for catchers and red for blitzers to their skin or clothes. Another possibility was catchers mitts and helmets on the blitzers.

The stealer broodlord makes a great Krox as he’s the right size, I was going to leave off the extra arms and maybe add a longer tail as well as the froggy eyes.

Hi Spubbbba,

I remember the trial run kroot/slann figure that you posted a while ago on fumbbl - it looked pretty darn good, damn you :D

So far I've put gs loincloths, boots and knee pads on the linefrogs, and filled in the weird open gaps on their arms and legs so they look a bit less 40k although they don't look BB enough for me yet so they need more work.....

I think I'll try the bulgy eye thing with some gs this weekend.

Spaceman Spiff uses those models for a Slann team in Thunderbowl. They work great! S.

I can pretty much guarantee that there isn't. But if I see them out I'll take a quick incognito shot for ya. S.

Looking forward to following the development of these bad boys.
Any thoughts on rr/turn markers?

Don't forget to make dice that don't roll ones, similar to fumbll team! ;)

It's taken a while longer than expected, but after hacking a lot of minis to pieces and then throwing Green Stuff at them, my krox and the first few linemen are taking shape. They're not finished yet but are on the way.....

Krox;

Linemen:

The krox is made using a stealer's head, legs and arms with GS body. I've put knee pads on the big fella but nothing else so he's more or less in the buff. I'm not sure if he should have any other pads (helmet/spiky bits etc) or if he's fine as he is.

The lineman are stealer hybrids with GS pads - each will have a different combination of arms and pads to differentiate them. I've put GS between the claws so they'll hopefully look webbed once they've been painted. I tried to make GS helmets for them but the weird shape of their heads is making that difficult so they may stay as they are.

Whaddya think so far?

edit: apologies for the picture quality... must try harder next time :)

Its definitely a good start, well done. I think the webbing between the fingers is a really good idea. I think that if you can get shoulderpads and some sort of loincloth on your kroxigor it might be a good idea, as it might make it look more bloodbowl like and also tie it in with your other players. Keep going!

Wow it's been a long time since I've seen those models! The stealers are from the Genestealer 2nd expansion of Space Hulk?

Looking forward to seeing these painted, fun use of very leftfield minis.

Thanks for the comments guys :)

Richy - good call on a loincloth for the krox. I was having a problem fitting shoulder pads on him due to the shape of his back but I agree that they would look good - back to the drawing board on that one.

Fass - the 'stealer hybrids are from the Genestearler expansion box - well spotted!

The addition of pads & loincloths has really helped the look of these guys. For my preference I would have kept them with only two arms, but its a really unique take on the frogs. Nice job!

Thanks axiom! I was going to convert them all so they only have 2 arms but I want every player to look individual and as I need 5-6 lineman, different arm combinations seemed the easiest way to tell them apart as the models already come with 4 arms - so some will have 2 arms, some 3 and some 4.
