Has there ever been / should there be an annual TFF mini?
I was thinking yesterday about forum minis. Last year on Bugman's Brewery dwarf forum, members agreed on, designed, had sculptured and cast a mini for forum members.
I'm not sure if its been done on TFF / TBB before, but given the popularity of tourney figures and all our various contacts in the business, should / could we do something?

I would be interested for sure.
I´m willing to help with the miniature design if desired. Don´t have the required sculpting talent to be of any use after that though.

Could be interesting although a lot of people on here design figures for tournaments or their own ranges so not sure who would manage it and produce it other than what is already done through manufacturers like 'Impact miniatures'
Any ideas what you would like to see?

Re: Has there ever been / should there be an annual TFF mini
nice idea ax, but riddled with issues...
1) this community can't even agree on whether Nuffle sucks or doesn't suck, and if he does suck does he swallow? What chance do we have on agreeing to something like a mini??
2) gotta pay a sculptor or find one with a heart of gold. failing which a sculpt by a TFF member which will not have the same quality?
3) casting? what material, where, who pays?
4) distribution - are you effing kidding me?
so, honestly, this is a can of worms not even worth discussion. Now, if (big IF) the NAF wanted to start doing an annual mini instead of block dice, I could see that working because
1) they make an executive decision about dice colours, so they could make other executive decisions I'm sure
2) membership fees should cover this
3) executive decision and membership fees
4) already a distribution system in place for dice, plus they have shipping addresses already, no big deal..

@Norse - all valid points, all overcome with the right setup
Subject matter can be decided by vote or nominating an organiser or committee.
Sculptors do indeed need to be paid. I personally know or have worked with Bob Naismith, Bob Olley & Kevin Adams to name but 3. Casting in my view is best done in the same country as the organisers. Again from previous experiences I have used excellent resin & metal casters. Under previous projects I've seen a self-funding approach - sculpting & casting costs are worked out, a figure calculated per cast. This could be actual cost, or a figure which includes for example funding for the forum for a surplus..
It ain't easy, but its possible
As for ideas...not got that far!

Re: Has there ever been / should there be an annual TFF mini
My suggestion:
1) Through different polls we vote for a mini.
First poll/ post:
- Player
- Sideline figure
- Something else
Second poll/ post:
- Race
Third poll/post:
- Type of sideline figure
- Position
Fourth poll:
- Details
This would work like the usual Legacy Team posts.
Then, once we have an idea what we want, we discuss with several sculptors/companies how to do it. And a KS/Indiegogo/Crowdfunding would solve the problem of paying for it. The sculptor gets a small comission for shipping each miniature.
That is my suggestion.
Alternative, instead of the sculptor a trustworthy member of this forum recieves the package and ships it (and gets a small fee).

I'm in, whatever we decide!
I also love Norse's idea about NAF. It could be both: dice and mini. I'll chip in 10 bucks if I have to.

since dice are $10 wouldn't we be more in the neighborhood of $20 for NAF membership?SBG wrote:I'm in, whatever we decide!

Sounds like a great idea Axiom. I think Mephisto is on the right track too.
From my experience with the Sandgroper Cup models its a lot of work, probably for little thanks with distribution being the hard work / labour intensive part. A Crowd funding project would be no small undertaking as well.
I assume any profits made would go towards supporting this fine forum... it must cost someone something. Getting the whole project to balance perfectly would be pretty hard. I would be wanting to err on the side of a slight profit to avoid being out of pocket.
You'll also want to cater for lost in the post models and potentially 'no guaranteed delivery' for some of the leas reliable country postal systems. And then what do you do with left over models
Happy to help out (flick me a PM) but can't see myself being able to assist on the distribution side of things. Someone or a group of someones is going to have to take on this part...its a key step that I think needs to be sorted early. IMO it means giving up at least a weekend for dead boring packaging & posting.
Now all you need is someone with the right contacts to organise and drive it all. Are you volunteering Axiom?

Sounds like it would take a brave soul to organise this, but I think it'd be a great idea.
