Custom Slann (from Kroot) Conversion Project

Post by RogueThirteen »

My newest BB project has been a Slann team. I absolutely adore the Horned Frogs team, but it's always been well outside of my price range. So, wanting to play Slann sooner rather than later, I finally broke down and set out to make my own Slann conversion team for under $50 (usd).

I'll use this thread to share some occasional progress.

Image
(who knew Kroot head-spines made such perfect reeds for swampy bases?)

The three basic positionals. Blitzers have larger shoulder pads and chestplates, catchers are in 'dramatic catch' styled poses with custom mitts, and the linefrogs are pretty vanilla. Their coloration and base rings will also help differentiate them a bit once painted, and I'm thinking about giving the blitzers metal headdresses with feathers, just to further the differentiation.

I'm not crazy about the Krox quite yet. I couldn't beat the price on the model (buying it at the FLGS on sale), and I'm weird about being unable to mix metal and plastic miniatures on the same team, so I've been limited to plastic figures. The "stylistic" clash between the krox's armor and the frogs' armor is pretty bad right now, so thinking about things to do to reduce the contrast.

Does anyone know of any good little frog miniatures for reroll counters and base decorations? Surprisingly, I haven't really found anything suitable yet but I would have figured someone like Reaper would have something like that.

NICE! I've contemplated this before and wondered how it would look. I like what I see so far. Looks like a good start.

Nice job!
Love the idea, and have been in the same route: http://bloodbowlmayhem.blogspot.pt/2013 ... -team.html
Also loved the Horned Frogs but like you price was an issue.

Looking forward to see the rest of the team!
Cheers!

They are what I use for my Slann Rerolls counters. The sculpts are far nicer than the pictures on their website suggests too. These are mine. Cheap too!

Just had a look at your team, and I absolutely love what you've done with the leg and arm repositioning. Wow, it really puts them into some nice dramatic poses!

And thanks for the frog miniature suggestions everyone, those are exactly what I've been looking for! I think I'll be grabbing the frog swarm to use as 5 Reroll markers, and an Impact! frog with ball to be a leader reroll. Perhaps the Greebo frog coach as the score marker. Now just one marker to go...

Nice work, the kroot make a great base for slann conversions. How did you make the cool shoulder pads?

If I was critical, I'd like to see less beaky mouths, but they look great as is. Have you thought about colour schemes?
