So, after picking up the two deadwood treemen in plastic from Impact! at Gencon, I've been inspired to run a halfling team this fall in our upcoming TT league. I know, I know... but I've played Lizards and Ogres, so I think I can survive a season with a proper stunty team...maybe.


For miniatures, I'm looking to kitbash some simple plastic halflings. Despite my searching here and online, I haven't turned any similar projects up. I'm thinking something like using GW goblin bodies with modified Cadian heads, or something. Anyone have any better suggestions?

The reasons for wanting to use GW plastics are three-fold:
(a) cost
(b) supporting the FLGS -- we recently moved our TT League to a new store, and when possible I'd like to buy from them to help support where we play. They carry mostly GW product, so I'd like to work within that range
(c) kit-bashing is fun


PS: I know there are two amazing halfling teams on Indiegogo right now, and as much as I love the Ultimate Halfling team, I want to support the FLGS and I NEED MY 'FLINGS NOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!! NOW NOW NOW!

Even the goblins won't work. Legs are too long. I think it would work out cheaper to just buy some flings. This site has the current range and some of the 2nd edition ones

You could use the dungeonbowl dwarfs, though that doesn't help your FLGS. I used one that you can see over in the 2013 legacy team; it may be that cadian heads swap in nicely too.

I'm torn between using gnoblar bodies with Cadian heads (and some thorough green stuff armor pads conversions) or plastic goblins with Cadian heads.

I like the stoutness of the goblins better (plus I could use leftovers for an eventual goblin team), but I might go with Gnoblars because their arms and legs look a little more in proportion and their clothes would be easier to work with (there's no furs and orc iconography all over them).

Not sure I'll like how the body pose and weird knee bend will look, but at least they'd be barefoot halflings!

What about night goblins?

You could have some kind of 'halfling monks' or 'halfling peasants' using the older night goblins, previous to the Battle for Skull Pass.

Hidden feet under the robes puts the barefoot problem out, and wearing robes in a BB pitch could explain the mov. 5.

The hardest part are the heads and balancing them out so they dont look like bobble heads - halflings are meant to be a bit tubby.

Gnoblars bodies or Gobbo conversions could work too, if you paint them up in robes.

Empire militia or swordsmen might be your best option actually - maybe you could combine the old chunkier gobbo sprues (common goblins) with empire swordsmen, so you get helmeted heads and puffy sleeves? Might hide some of it.

Perhaps the lord of the rings hobbit models could help you? I dont know if they have plastics.

I tinkered around a bit (pun intended) with some of the spare bits I had sitting around and everything just seemed too complicated. Goblin legs were okay, except the fur loin-clothes seemed too out of place. Goblin arms were too long and goblin bodies too covered in orc iconography. The gnoblars were a bit more decent, except all the human heads I had just looked too far off on them.

So any project would have involved multiple-source bits and LOTS of time greenstuffing.


So I just did what any sane person would do and nabbed a lot of fourteen 2nd Ed BB Halflings for $40 (shipped) on Ebay.
