I recently came into some second-hand miniatures that really need a repaint. The miniatures have been flocked with what appears to be standard greenish railway flock. I have no idea how long ago the minis were flocked or what adhesive was used (the miniatures are very old).


Any idea if stripping them in Simple Green will present a problem? I'd hate for the flock to have some weird reaction, but I'd like to avoid tediously trying to scrape off all of the flock before stripping.

Reasonably sure I have stripped flocked minis in the past in simple green with no issues.

Of course I can't guarantee its the same flock. If you are really concerned scrape a little bit off and drop it in some simple green and see if anything happens.

Make sure you wear a heavy leather apron and a welding mask though !

My general position is: if you are going to strip a miniature, the base is going to be destroyed and needs replacing.

I generally take wirecutters (or a similar tool) and snip the base up the miniature's tab, in order to split the base in two and just snap it off the mini completely. From there, strip it and put it on a brand new base.

I guess I should try and de-base them. Though, I'd say the original painter already debased them enough. Har har.

Simple green will take flock off the base as long as you let it set long enough. If the flock was glued on with elmers, make sure the models always have a fair amount of the solution covering them. If you let them get dry, the glue will become a hard coat on the fig and be a pain to get off.

use EASY OFF oven cleaner. works on plastic, too!
