how to swamp base

I am slowly working on getting a team box together, tonight I nearly completed the zombies(need hardcoat and a little bit of highlights), but I have no idea how to make it look like they are standing at the edge of a swamp. The other players are on docks(wooden stir sticks) or on a log in "water". Anyone have tips or tricks?

the figures look great, but why did you use square bases?

The werewolf on the stump came with one, the rest were free. Also thought the dock would be easier to work with if I had square bases
