Looking into playing with this a bit, not for production but personal use and possibly for a tourney prize next year.
Are there any noob-friendly and miniature-centric type software, or public domain models/frames to work off of?
Anyone do this type of virtual sculpting with any favorite software/tips/ect...

I'm interested in this as well. I would love to get into designing minis. Especially from 2D drawings. I know there's software out there but the price is prohibitively expensive for it.

Zbrush the most used, but you also need sub tools and there are tons of free prebuilt models to use (quality not the best..) also is not that simple as we are experimenting. What you see on the screen is not what you get in your hands.
I believe also Blender will work, just not as sofisticated but free to test.
We will be running 3rd party high quality printing soon (at competitive price), we are waiting for our "EXPENSIVE" printer to be delivered to finish the Tanatos eand Honos models as we speak.
