Which race/team has better looking 3rd ed minis than 2nd ed?

Just one more poll:
I think most BBcoaches prefer the 2nd ed. minis for their classic and sports-look rather than the more "toyish" 3rd ed. minis. But are there any exceptions?
So, which race/team do you think is in overall better/cooler looking in the 3rd edition than in the 2nd edition?

P.S.: not enough poll options left for Halflings and Chaos Dwarves (the latter would hardly get any vot anyway  )

Ok, ok, I washed my mouth with soap and opened a second poll for all the Chaos Dwarves and Halfling fans out there.

the third ed. minis were always a dissappointment... not only did they lack the interesting and appropriate esign sense that 2e had, but, like all the gw products of that era, they lacked the overall playfulness of gw's earlier designs...

once upon a time, when i was but a wee lad, gw wasn't the evil empire it is today, they were just a moderately successful game company who seemed to appreciate the notion that this stuff was fun, they had fun with their designs, and to be honest, their sculptors weren't great, but they made up for it by providing miniatures that were cool rather than crisp...

...then something happened, they got too big too fast, some new people come and went fromt eh studio, and suddenly every damn miniature they made was a lifeless metal of lead covered in skulls... and unfortunately, this is when 3e came out...

find a dynamic pose in those 3e pieces? they're blocks, and they're dull.

and their hands are wayyyy too big.

so my vote: none of the above

I like some of the second edition more notable the skaven and the humans, but i prefer the 3rd editions on the whole, though as for the 2nd edition elves and the 3rd wood elves they both suck imho.

I fully support Phils opinion, I also always disliked this warhammer look getting mixed into their non-tabletop games like BB and Talisman after 1993. When I fist saw the 3rd ed. humans I thought they were empire troops without weapons

Really? I clearly favourite 2nd. ed. Elves, the catchers are IMHO the most dynamic minis, the rest - especially Dark Elves are very static. Obviously a matter of taste.

But I have to admit, I accepted the 3rd ed. Big guys, the Troll and the mino are nice, the RatOgre is cool, the Ogre sucks, whereas apart from the 2nd. ed. Ogres many Big guys looked silly (Treeman) or boring (Minotaurs). The 3rd ed. Star Players are all loonies and be better banned into the Kindergarten.

I wasn't talking about the dynamics, i totally agree the 3rd edition minis look static. The whole appearence of them I prefer though. The current new range of miniatures gw are producing are far more detailed and dynamic and if and when this style filters down into blood bowl I am sure they will look the best yet. Take the new ogres that will be released.

the new era of gw stuff is definitely an improvement, they're more dynamic and less death-metal inspired, but they are quite sterile right now. nothing about gw's recent lines has suggested that they are having any fun over there at all... they're a factory now, not guys who make the minis they want to play with...

Unfortunately the minis they produce aint allowed for GW tournements.

As a side note. Is it allowed to bring homemaid minis? (made from green stuf by one self) I should think it is but am not sure.

Well you are allowed scratch built, i've always assumed that meant built from scratch, so i guess phil could take his own minis ;]

I can't stand the 2nd ed Dark Elves with spatulas on their heads. The Dwarves (did someone say sterile lumps?) are a big improvement too but the Darkies got my vote.

I definitely prefer the 3rd ed stuff by and large. Particularly the dark elves... i'm not homophobic or anything but the only word that comes to mind when i look at the 2nd ed stuff for them is "gay".

There are a few exceptions...I like the 2nd ed Skaven, particularly the pointing thrower. But the orcs look about as tough as high school players. The undead look dumb. And so on....

I don't get everyone's preference of the 2nd ed.

The second edition dwarfs are what got me into BB in the first place (catalogue page in the back of an ancient WD. It was yellow and had space marines on the cover.) I'm not so keen on the Blitzers any more but the Blockers and Linemen were great. I fully intend doing a repaint on mine as a Karaz-a-karak WESL team, using the 2nd ed. Linemen as Blitzers.
I still like the third ed. dwarfs though. They have plenty of character. The third ed. elves aren't a patch on the second ed. with the exception of the Darkies.
The 2nd ed. skaven remain among the best minis GW has ever produced. I wouldn't exchange mine for anything. Especially not the new WFB plastic atrocities.
My vote? Dark elves.
