Slowly learning how to paint...

Well, I never really tried mini painting before, but since I started to play in a league recenty, I caught myself wanting to give it a try...

My first team ever is Chaos. I already regret that choice, since it doesn't seem to be the best team to start with for an unexperienced coach, but it's my team now so I will stick with it. Anyway, let's not talk about my problems in our league game-wise, but about the minis.

The first one I painted was a Chaos Warrior, since I figured they would be easier to paint than the Beastmen. That was about 3 months ago.

The picture is not very good, but you get the idea.
While this isn't anything you go braggin with, I thought it's good enough for tabletop use, so I sealed it.

Other Warriors followed. Comparable quality.
Then it was time to do the first Beastman.

After I sealed it 2 months ago, I realized it was not good, so I did more browsing and (hopefully) learning. About one month ago I did this one:

I think it's not too bad, but after sealing it and finding out that the pointy things at the sides of the head of this mini are the horns' ends and not ears I... well let's just say I kept going...
After two more weeks of "trial and error" it looked like this:

Not much better? I kept trying.
Tonight I did this one:

I like it. I'll think I'll give my Minotaur a try next... :D
If you want to see more of my (some of them not very successful) painting experiments for my Chaos Team click here.

So I guess that's it. My personal development during the last 3 months. I hope one day I'll be as good as you guys around here, but even if I won't be, thanks for all the discussions and examples here that helped me. :)

For your early attempts this is just amazing work. Can't imagine how great your teams will look with more practice.

Wow, painting like that only after 3 months! I'm lucky if I can get mine to look like that and I hate to say how long I've been trying to learn to paint. Keep it up, you'll get much better as you paint more.

It is really good :) You can be happy with that, many people don't paint like that after 3 months (I didn't).

The color of the CW is really nice as well.

Even your first miniature isn't bad and you seem to be making great progress. I imagine the team looks just fine on the table and judging by that last beastman your next team should be even better.

I still remeber my firts figure... It was in Cambridge (England) around 10 months ago... Now, I have more than 500 figures (20 teams, 20 referees...) If I can paint quite good with only one year of practice, and without good paints (we don't have GW stores here) you can do it too. In fact, your figures look better than mine.

Stop knocking yourself, those are better than anything I've produced.

Good luck, both with the painting and the team

If you paint this well in three months there's a lot of potential. Just keep improving your skills like this and you'll win painting contests with your eyes closed 8)

Looking good! Better than most of the guys in my league.

To add to the list of compliments: that last beastman is very good. It took me a lot longer to get anywhere near that point. As Squiggoth said: keep painting and attend tourneys and the award should be no problem. And he can say: "been there, done that" so it must be true. :-)

Keep us posted on the progress.
