Apothecaries - Do they need to change?
Since Apothecaries were brought up on another thread, I thought I would raise this.
Under BB2k1 rules, you can:
hire a Wizard for one game for 50k; or
buy an Apothecary for ever for 50k.
That Apothecary can (83% chance) save a player per game from Death or SI (niggle, stat reduction). Thus for an investment of only 50k you could save a highly prized War Dancer with several skill rolls costing 120k and save another player in the next game.
Now under most circumstances, I'm betting that all Coaches would sooner hire an Apothecary rather than freeboot a Wizard (for a Final this might not be the case - however, the team is likely to alreday have an Apothecary at that stage).
With this in mind it seems to me that the Apothecary is under priced or too good (I prefer the former).
Now does that mean that the BBRC should consider rebasing the cost of the Apothecary?
Alternatively, the whole system of apothecaries could be changed. For example a low level apothecary may only heal a BH, a medium SI and BH and a top level apothecary all injuries (costs say 30k, 60k and 90k - upgrading apoths is allowed - its called "training"). This could go on and allow an apothecary to heal more than one injury... however, I don't believe that this is necessary.

I voted for the level system. Personally considering all the blown apoth rolls i have seen i dont think they are overpriced for one roll only that can not be rerolled. Another idea i have had which would be for apoth's, modified mages, and star players would be to give them a purchase price and a per game price. U would pay so much the get the agreement to have the person then another smaller price everytime u choose to put the person in the game, this price would be paid at the start of the game.

I voted for levels too, I like the MBBL2 rules that allow this
level one as per rulebook
level two can perform both actions once per match
level three can do above but also cure KO's on a roll (not sure number)
level four can do all above plus turn one SI into a BH
level five can do all above plus turn one Death into an SI.
50k per level. not a bad investment now that the dirty tricks/random event cards are gone.
We are testing this in our local league too.

Apothecaries - Do they need to change?
I can't agree that apothecaries are too strong. If you coach elves or skaven or something similar, then they are an essential to actually keeping your team going early on. The 2k1 rules add enough ways of losing developing players (aging rolls, etc.) without your suggestion.
If the apothecary were to be restricted, wouldn't it just disuade people from taking a team which needs time to develop. We would end up with everyone coaching dwarves
... which would get a bit dull.

OK the message seems to be:-
"If it ain't broke don't fix it!"
Although there is some support for bringing some sort of level system for apothecaries.
However, I certainly feel that the purchase of an apothecary is essential - if not at the beginning, after your first match (allowing 1 extra reroll). This has been made very clear to me by the RABBL (a PBEM League) where the Coaches rotate ownership of teams - this has lead to several teams buying additional players instead of an apothecary.... those teams have suffered because of it.
In closing, I will say that if there is better value anywhere for 50k than an apothecary, I want to know what it is!

For the love of god DON'T give an apperance fee to apothacry's. I'll tell you why.
In the last 5 games I've played under the new rules system my 205TR Chaos team has won a measley 40'000GCS. I actually had a game where I won nothing. 1 game has been against a team with equal TR and the others against teams with ratings of 130+. I understand that I won't get as much playing the lower teams but the new winnings table makes it incredibly hard to get any money at all. I had a CW get -1 Strength last game and I need to replace him, it's probrably going to take me an entire season (8+ games) to replace him at this rate. Let alone pay an apperance fee for the apoth. If I have any other players die or get seriously injured I'm really screwed for replacing them.
By all means introduce the level concept, that sounds great. But paying an apperance fee will mean that as your team progress', gets more skills and more valued players, the more likely it is that the apoth won't be avaliable in the game.
I would like to see an Apoth who could heal daemons though, or maybe make it a magical spell that on-pitch spellcasters can pickup.
Just my 2p's worth.

I think apoth price is ok now. I failed more than once, rolling 1 and it don't heal injuries caused by the crowd when the player is pushed out of the pitch. BUT if you really want to change this, maybe you should take same considerations to regeneration. Mortal injuries shouldn't be instantly cured just because a player regenerates... they should loose the rest match and maybe the next.

In case someone thot i was talking about freebooting apothecaries, i was not. Freebooting is paying half price for the use of a player/staff for one game. That is not what i said or meant.
