Actions?

Post by aaronfreeman »

Does picking up the ball count as an action, or (for example) could a player move to the ball, pick it up, keep moving and perform a blitz or throw action in that turn?

Picking up the ball is NOT an action, so you can indeed blitz and pick up the ball in 1 go.

Sometimes you are even forced to do this before you can blitz an opponent because you come across the square where the ball is first! :smoking:

But you still have to say if it is going to be a Move, Blitz or Pass Action before you pick up the ball.

Picking up the ball is not an action.
But if you want to pass or hand-off the ball you must declare this before picking it up.

All is covered above but Move, Block, Pass, Hand off, and Blitz are the actions that need declaring.

Are you sure that Foul and Hand-Off are actions that need to be declared?? In the LRB, it states that Move, Block, Blitz and Pass are actions. Everything else is options you have during either of the above actions (such as Fouling at the end of a Move, or Handing-Off after Moving/Blitzing etc)

yes they are actions, they aren't listed in the main list of actions but if you read their descriptions in the actual rules it says they are

you cannot hand off as well as blitzing, or foul, so i would include them as actions.

as grumble said, they are actions, only mentioned later in the book (advanced rules)

beware that not picking up the ball, even though it is no action, does count as a turn over
