when does ball bounce

G'day, can't find answer to this one elsewhere.
When does the ball bounce, and when does it scatter?
The rules aren't clear to me, it suggests that any time the ball lands in an empty square, it will bounce, and won't stop bouncing until it has bounced from an empty square immediately to another empty square. Under page 14 LRB I can think of 3 possible interpretations for what it says, so I want to know what people out there tend to do.

The ball scatters at kick-off (D6 squares in a random direction) and at inaccurate passes (3 times).
The ball bounces one time when it will land after scatter or throw-in in an empty square.
The ball will also bounce one time if you fail a pick-up or a catch or someone is pushed back into the ball or the ballcarrier is knocked down.
The ball only bounces until it is either caugth or lands in an empty square.

LRB page 14 BOUNCING BALLS is to be read as you have just passed the ball and determined where it will land (both accurate and inaccurate passes) and nobody caugth it.
Then it bounces until it is either caugth or lands in an empty square.[/quote]

- At kick-off the ball the ball flies D6 squares from where you aim. It then bounces once.
- When a player for some reason loses the ball (fall over, failed pick-up) the ball scatters 1 square.
- A ball going out of bounds is thrown in using the template and flies 2D6. It then bounces once.
- An inaccurate pass flies 3 scatters from the aimed square and bounces once.

In all cases: if there's a player in a square the ball bounces/flies into he can catch it. If this failes it bounces once more. Keep this up until you end up in an empty square.

as said allready, ball scatters at kick-offs and innaccurate passes, while it bounce once when it lands or someone fail to pick up or catch it.

so for example, someone goes to pick the ball up, they fail, the ball will bounce somewhere using the d8 scatter template, and if that square is empty, then it stops there?

Yes. The same applies to a failed catch.

Wasn´t there once a rule like tik said in the first post, that a bouncing ball will bounce, and won't stop bouncing until it has bounced from an empty square immediately to another empty square?
We´re playing it in our league that way for many years now and couldn´t find it in the LRB last week.
So were did we get this rule from?

I think its the conceptualisation of bounce. We want to think of a ball bouncing when it hits the ground, but the rules look at a player dropping or trying to pick it up as a bounce as well.
Wasn't there once something about the ball never bouncing more than 1 time unless it hit another player or something like that?
