2nd edition retro rules

2nd edition retro rules

After a long time away from Citadel minatures I am rebuilding my collection. I now have the second edition and a Skaven team.
Rat ogres- I don't recall these, nor can I afford the Star Player and Companion books again. I understand one of these is for campaigns (only?), which one details big guys or is that in a WD mag, if so which one?
If one of the books is campaign only, and I seem to recall being far more satisfied with some books than others, which one is it? I think Waarghh made me give it up after finding no rule updates at all, but I was young and avoided reading sales blurb.

The Star Players book has all the races and skills and most of the Stars.

The Compendium has all the rules for secret weapons, spells, and running a team in a league.
