Newbee question about interception

Post by Coach Valdez »

The rule for interception.
PBBL 1.11 wrote:"To be able to make an interception, the player must
be between the player who threw the ball and the target player or
empty square meant to receive it and the plastic ruler must pass
over at least part of the square the intercepting player is standing
in."
Everything here is clear, except the "between the player..." part.

For a pass in diagonal (between o):

xo
ox

I consider a player in the x position to be able to intercept, but for a horizontal or vertical pass (hand-off like)

xx
oo
xx

Are the x considered between or not? They are under the ruler!

I don't think they're considered between.

Also, I've checked on the PBeM BB tool, and that doesn't pop-up an interception box (which it does when you throw the diagonal).

I think that if the player is under the ruler, the player has the opportunity to intercept the ball. If anything, that'll teach you to try to pick up the 1 SPP rather than do a safer hand-off. :)

And also to balance off what Darkson said about the PBeM tool, you can intercept the ball in both cases with JavaBBowl.

Isn't the "official" rule is that a player is eligible to intercept the ball provided they are under the ruler and as close (or closer) to the thrower as the intended receiver is?

In which case, the "X" players in the diagonal example would be eligible for an interception, and only the X players who are flanking the thrower in the second example would also be eligible interceptors.

Thx...

Well, I'll discuss it with "el commissar" and, if it's not the exact rule, it's gonna be a house rule.
