Big Guys and base size

Is there a standard base size for big guys? I want to use one of the new tree-kin models for a tree man for my new wood elves. Also, do big guys take up more than 1 square on the pitch?

Big guys take up one square regardless of the size of base you use. I prefer to make my Big Guys fit on 25mm bases like the rest of the players on my teams but that's not always possible with some newer minis, if you can call them that.

Most people use the larger 40mm bases for their big guys and I do too if I absolutely have to.

As a side note, I think you'll be happier if you use smaller models to represent your Big Guys. Many of the newer models are simply too big for the pitch and I feel make the game too fiddly and I've seen all sorts of way to make it easier from Chits and Dice showing prone and stunned to replace the prone BG to strips of paper with stun and prone written on them. Some were really nice but it just proves to me that some of these minis are too big.

For my money, if a model doesn't fit comfortably on a 25mm round base, it should be questioned whether it should go on the pitch.

Another thing to do is make a custom pitch. I have a friend who has made 2 so far with slightly larger squares to accomadate the monster bases.

But then you've got to go to the extra trouble of re-sizing the Range Ruler.

I'm with Snew on this one, BB big guys should fit on 25mm bases like all the other figs. That's actually one reason I don't use big guys in my teams. They're TOO big.

Wow, I never thought about resizing the pass ruler. We always counted squares.

That was the way throwing the ball was performed in First Edition BB way back in the mid-to-late 1980s, before the Range Ruler was introduced in Second Edition.

Strangely enough, when the squares on the board were expanded from 1 inch to 2.9cm for Third Edition, the Range Ruler stayed exactly the same size as before...

But in your case, I would suggest re-sizing the Range Ruler.
