Using Tentacles when Prone/Stunned

Post by Podfrey »

Two questions in one really.

- Can you use Tentacles when Prone? And,

- Can you use Tentacles when Stunned?

I may be (read: "am") sometimes a bit thick when it comes to finding rules, but I can't see anything in LRB 5.0 that says when Prone or Stunned it doesn't work. Interestingly this question came out of an add-on to the whole Tentacles/Dodge sequence of when to roll, etc, etc. by adding in the complexity of Diving Tackle.

As ever I'm looking for page references, not opinions! :D

No to both.

Tentacles works when someone leaves your tackle zone (see skill description). Stunned and prone players have no tackles zones so they cannot use Tentacles.

Cheers.

Played with Tentacles on a Beast of Nurgle the other night and it soon became apparent how utterly useless a skill it is.

AG 4+ players just try and dodge off with just under a 50% chance of escape (and not likely to fail dodges). Even Str 2 players only need to roll 2 more on the dice than a Str 5 player!!! :o AG 2 or less don't bother at all cos they're usually Str 4 or 5 anyway and just hit. And AG 3 players either chance it or just call their mates in to bash away.

Overall, a pretty weak skill as it stands.

Errrr, it's not useless Geoffrey. It's just not a game-busting over-powered uber-skill.

Giving AG4 a "less than 50% chance of escape" sounds pretty handy to me.

bleah, I think it's just below average. 50% when the tentacles player is 2 ST higher gap is kind of meh.

On ST6 it's impressive, ST4 it's not worth wasting a skill on.

Of course, Tentacles used to be ridic good. Now it's just sub-optimal unless your player is ST5+ (Pref ST6). The beastman with tentacles mini in particular is useless...

I'd love to see it on a Treeman mind you. Just need to win the Chaos Cup with a 'fling team.
