Stumble and Dodge

Post by Amadan »

i'm curious about Dodge and the Stumble result...

if a stumble result is rolled, and a player has dodge... they are just pushed back? or do they have to roll a dodge??

the wording in the LRB 5, is "if the dodge skill is used it functions as a pushback"

that says to me, that a roll is necessary, however it is worded almost the same, when it comes to block, which leads me to believe that it's just an auto pushback... which is how we have been playing, but it's been a nagging question for me for a while... but i don't want to bring it up with the guy i play against, cause i already smash his catchers more often than not... but it is a pain in the backside when i throw a 2 die block against his catcher with the ball, that's 4 squares away from my end zone and only get a stumble and a pushback.... it makes me cry :(

"c'est la vie"

but in my experience with chaos... the games seem limited to 2-1 games... with the occasional 3rd touchdown.

The dodge skill means that the player is only pushed back on a stumble and is not nocked over, no dice roll required.

not to be nit picky but its LRB 5 not 6.
6 is a while away yet (thank goodness).

The addition of use is because theoretically you might actually want to be knocked over - for example when you would be crowd surfed if you didn't.

That wouldn't work. Without Dodge, you get pushed into the new square and knocked over, with Dodge you're simply pushed into the new square.
Only a both down (with or without wrestle) result, take root or stand firm keeps you in the same square.

Unless of course you choose to fall over on the first block of a Frenzy style block towards the sidelines

You also need to consider Grab players setting up for surfs and chain pushes. Not just frenzy. For example, if you set up correctly with the right team (and roll well) - it's possible to crowd surf 1 or 2 of the LoS players off the pitch on turn 1. Taking a dive if you can see that coming is prudent.

Often it's best to fall over if a Pow/! would put you next to the sidelines. Especially if there is a spare player who can block for a potential surf or a blitz still available.
