Re: Frenzy / Horns / Blitz - Combo Question

Post by Jural »

As a league commish, I'd rule with Galak and Darkson, but I understand where the guy's coming from. It's a stretch, but I can see it. Consider these three wordings of the relevant section

LRB 5
...However, the player may only use this ability as part of a Blitz, and only if he has moved at least one square before he makes the block (standing up at the start of your Action does not count!). If the player has the Frenzy skill, then the Horns bonus applies on the second block if it applied on the first.

Disambiguation 1-
...However, the player may only use this ability as part of a Blitz, and only if he has moved at least one square before he makes the block (standing up at the start of your Action does not count!). If the player has the Frenzy skill, then the Horns bonus only applies on the second block if it applied on the first.

Disambiguation 2-
...However, the player may only use this ability as part of a Blitz, and only if he has moved at least one square before he makes the block (standing up at the start of your Action does not count!). If the player has the Frenzy skill, then the Horns bonus always applies on the second block <text deleted>

Both can technically be derived from the LRB 5 text, but Disambiguation 2 is a bit of a stretch once you take the time to write it out. Still, the fix is SO easy that I would suggest adding in the extra word and making life easy for commishes who have rules lawyers :)

"Dwarves can now fly!"
"Yes sir, how high?"

Ahhh, the work of a commish should be a lot easier than it is...

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.

I say things are confusing when they don't follow basic logic, and sloppy logic should be avoided. If and only if (or iff), is an important distinction from if, and it's sad to see that sometimes PHDs can't use it correctly. For those who think it's not that important i recomend reading something of F. H. Bradley it's a horror (though not his fault, the convention wasn't there when he wrote his philosophy).

Again, and I think people are missing the point, we are playing a BOARD GAME. We can't assume that everyone playing has take college level logic or programming classes; though I would say a large percentage has given how long this thread has gone.

I think it's a good assessment of how "tight" the rules are that it is even relevant that there is a difference between if and "if and only if".

But I advocate the simple one word addition, just to make the job easier for future commishes.
