Kickoff - touchback and blitz!

Post by lerchey »

This came up in a game tonight, and it seems a bit confusing to me.

I kicked off to my opponent.
The kick was way short and resulted in a touchback, so he gave the ball to a runner on the wide zone, at the center of the field.
I rolled a 10 on the kick off table and got a blitz.

Under normal circumstances, the ball would be in the air while the kickoff table result is completed.

Is that also true for touchbacks? Should be have not had the ball during my blitz despite it being a touchback?

Confused players want to know! :D

The ball doesn't land until after the blitz...so your opponent can choose who to give the ball to after you finish your blitz turn.

I had that same issue in a league game recently, it was kinda weird since I didn't know who had the ball, so I had to make sure I didn't over committ, which is usually the opposite of how I would play the blitz normally.
